#double casting

I drew all the double casted characters in Hamilton because i wanted to see how I would differentiate them on paper. It's basically softer features on one and harsher features on the other (⁠・⁠_⁠・⁠;⁠)

when your show is double cast and its your double's night but she misses three scenes because she was too busy playing video games :/

Okay. So as far as I know, in the first song "Alexander Hamilton" Anthony Ramos sings the line "Me, I died for him" (correct me if I'm wrong). But I don't know if that's supposed to be Laurens (Lams for life!) or Phillip talking! Do you have any idea?

It’s actually supposed to be both. Daveed and Oak both sing “me I fought with him” because Lafayette and Hercules literally fought beside Hamilton and Jefferson and Madison fought with him over politics. The Schuyler Sisters all sing “me I loved him” because they all had feelings for him of some kind at some point (Peggy’s a bit of a stretch because that is never really referenced in the play so I’m not sure if she’s supposed to be Peggy and Maria at that point, but whatever, it’s cool and deep so we’ll let it slide. EDIT: @ask-mary-eleanor-laurens has informed me that Peggy loved him as a brother) and then Jasmine also plays Maria Reynolds who “loved” Hamilton as well. It’s really cool how Lin structured that section and how the creative team was strategic in their double casting. It’s like a little Easter egg and I love it!!!! So you’re right, it’s Laurens AND Phillip! ☺️

Just out of curiosity, what do you think of double casting in shows?

I think it high school it’s a great idea.  Let’s give more people opportunities to shine.  In professional theatre, it’s a waste of money.  (And I’ve never heard of a professional theatre double casting, frankly.)

I see the term "double casting" a lot. Is that having an understudy for a role, or having two people alternate performance days?

It's having two people who split the performance days equally!
