Hey, uuuhhhh... Can you help me draw double chins? I am trying to give more believability to fat characters, and when I end up drawing double chins, it looks awkward if not downright awful. So I have settled down in not giving them a full jawline, but I know that doesn't cut it...
the anatomy book Morpho: Fat and Skin Folds definitely goes into anatomical detail about that kind of thing! for more simplified/stylized, uhh, here's some approaches I've taken:
ok in these cases the character's neck is very short lol, the double chin makes it look as though they have no neck at all.
this guy at least has a bit more neck, but he mostly just looks old with a turkey neck lol
this def made me think more about how to draw Eric's jaw lol. it's a bit like a chin strap made of flesh.
I guess a quick hack if you're used to drawing skinny faces would be to draw more padding around the jaw and draw the tip of the chin in the usual spot.
this isn't 100% realistic obviously :'D it is a starting point though and referencing (photos of) fat people helps you get far. for instance, AdorkaStock has pose references with plus-size models.
everyone looks different :'D there's really no one way to draw a double chin, I realize.
hope this helps a little! I'm sure there's other resources out there that I couldn't find right now, oops.
