I'm not going to sugarcoat anything. Things suck financially, and no relief for another two weeks. No matter how much I apply everywhere I can and do follow-up calls with them, no one is giving me the opportunity to work for them. I am trying to stay strong for my husband, but I don't know for how long I can go.

Whelp, here we go again...

It's been an up and down month of April, with more down than up. I wish I could say I was in a better place financially, but I'm not. If anything, I'm down more than I was at the beginning of the month. Rent's due, food's running out, bills need to be paid, and with no one willing to hire me everywhere that I apply at, I need help with it all. If you can spare any bit, it would be greatly appreciated to keep myself and my husband afloat for the foreseeable future. If not, then I don't know what may happen.

On this, my 41st birthday, I went with my husbear to a nice little dive bar/eatery for some delicious pizza. Afterwards we strolled along the Riverwalk to a nearby park, where we enjoyed the good breeze as we digested our filling lunch. Now it's time for me to shop for a cake and candles as I am too tired and too warm to bake my own.

Hey, all. I know you are all tired of hearing this from me, but with no current job (and prospects) and no income, I am left with no real choice to do ask this of you all...

Is there any chance someone out there can help me and my husband with groceries and possibly rent for next month? We could both use the help with getting groceries that my EBT card cannot cover, not that I can get much food with a $3 card balance. Things like toilet paper, dish soap, and food for our cat, would be what you help would go towards.

As far as rent, after the management company approving my husband to be added to my lease, it is $50 a month (thank you section 8 housing). It's not much, but in order for us to keep a roof over our heads, it still needs to be paid.

I would love to get around $100 or more to sit comfortably until my next EBT cycle, but we would be happy with anything as long as we can survive another month.

The universe is smiling down at my husbear @collideintome and I today, as on this Valentine's Day, we received a letter from the management company in charge of the apartment building, informing us that Greg has been approved to be added to my lease, making him an official resident. He'll still need to be given a key and all that to be OFFICIAL official, but it's a sign that we are recognized as a couple in this building.

Oh God, how do I top this Valentine's Day next year?

Can anyone help?

I had a financial slip-up happen to me and I need help covering the last $60 of my rent. I had an old subscription )I had thought I had cancelled) hit that took it out of my rent. I contacted support and they were able to process the refund, but it'll take 5-10 business days to be put back into my account, which is well after my rent due date of the 5th.

Now I have to scramble to come up with that portion of the rent before the 5th. Is there anyone who can help, even if it's a little bit? I am fine with everything else for the time being, with the exception of this. Any help would be truly appreciated.

Had a very productive morning. Washed up some dishes from last night, prepped veggies for dinner (making a TikTok recipe that looked really good), cleaned the bathtub, made some brownies for dessert/snack, and am now stressing about coming up with some money for rent. And all before noon.

Made up some classic Christmas cookies a couple of days ago and decided to bake them today before the night's end. I think I have at least 60 or so cookies to decorate. At least we'll have desserts and sweet snacks covered for the weekend.

So the plan for tomorrow is to prep for a dessert (Apple crisp) to take to my brother's house, who is hosting Thanksgiving again. I'm sad about not cooking the dinner again, but it's the first year celebrating w/ my husband @collideintome, so it's a fair trade.

Have I told y’all about my husband’s Fork Theory?  If I did already, pretend I didn’t, I’m an old.

So the Spoon Theory is a fundamental metaphor used often in the chronic pain/chronic illness communities to explain to non-spoonies why life is harder for them. It’s super useful and we use that all the time. But it has a corollary.  You know the phrase, “Stick a fork in me, I’m done,” right? Well, Fork Theory is that one has a Fork Limit, that is, you can probably cope okay with one fork stuck in you, maybe two or three, but at some point you will lose your shit if one more fork happens.  A fork could range from being hungry or having to pee to getting a new bill or a new diagnosis of illness. There are lots of different sizes of forks, and volume vs. quantity means that the fork limit is not absolute. I might be able to deal with 20 tiny little escargot fork annoyances, such as a hangnail or slightly suboptimal pants, but not even one “you poked my trigger on purpose because you think it’s fun to see me melt down” pitchfork.

This is super relevant for neurodivergent folk. Like, you might be able to deal with your feet being cold or a tag, but not both. Hubby describes the situation as “It may seem weird that I just get up and leave the conversation to go to the bathroom, but you just dumped a new financial burden on me and I already had to pee, and going to the bathroom is the fork I can get rid of the fastest.”

I like this and also I like the low key point that you may be able to cope with bigger forks by finding little ones you can remove quickly. A combination of time, focus, and reduction to small stressors that can allow you to focus on the larger stressor in a constructive way.

Knives are traumas that require help to fix. Take a fork out and stress is reduced. Take a knife out and you better be prepared to stop the bleeding.

I'm reading this, and I'm in awe. I'm nowhere high on the neurodivergent spectrum, but even with managing and dealing with the stressors of my life, this makes a ton of sense to me. Like we can deal with smaller things that annoy us, like a hangnail or a stubbed toe, and we can pile that up to the point where you can't deal with the collective forks in you anymore. Try as I might to stay strong for my partner and loved ones by taking things in stride and handling enough to move on the best that I can, but even then, I know that if too many things come at once, it's going to be a eruption where I can't take anymore.

Thank you for posting something like this and giving me some enlightenment on such an interesting theory.

I came back to my family home to begin preparations for a move with my partner. I walked into a home with no running utilities, floors giving out from water damage, and a section of ceiling fallen in. There is a gap in the roof above it. There are multiple pest infestations. Everything is covered in mouse droppings, fleas, or a combination of the two.

I can't rely on my family to get out of here, because they are the reason this is happening in the first place. What I need is to get away from them, and to move in with my partner sooner. I'm begging with no shame for some help now. I don't know what my folks are liable to do if I tell my extended family.

Please, help a disabled person leave an abusive household and start a new life. It's that or death at this point.

Boosting this because even though he is with me now, we still have to get the rest of his belongings moved here, and we can't rely on our usual method to ensure their move here. My Bear has been through enough these past few days and I don't want him to worry about what to do with everything that's going on.

So many headaches happening today and I don't know where to begin.

I'm frustrated that I am going to be without food stamps for the foreseeable future because the federal government doesn't want to put the people first and squabble over party politics. With no work prospects happening anytime soon, I am struggling to figure out how to afford to feed myself for a day, let alone the entire month. I am planning on contacting food banks in my area tomorrow and on Monday to try and get some sort of stop gap, but I don't know what else I can do.

On top of that, I just found out that my husband's home is no longer habitable for him and his brother to live in due to weather causing the roof to decay away. So now him and I are scrambling to find a way to move him in with me as soon as possible, which is increasing the first issue's stress and anxiety tenfold.

With all that, my building having issues with electric and the pipe stress still being compartmentalized, I'm just struggling to figure out how much longer I can go on before I snap. I can't keep relying on the kindness of family and strangers for help, but with no other solutions, I don't know what else I can do. And that is making me break down even more. It's like "Okay, I get it. I must've pissed off a karmic deity somehow. Please stop."

I just don't know what else I can do. I can keep fighting, but I don't know how much longer I can last.
