I recently became aware of a whole bunch of obscure punctuation marks that I never knew existed. This goes to show, you can learn something new every day if ya poke around in various nooks and crannies in the world. As a result of this discovery, I’ve created a series of images that honor these obscure punctuation marks. This is another in a series of these punctuation images. I consider this series as a celebration of stuff I never knew before. Not sure I’ll ever actually use these punctuation marks in my day to day comings and goings, but it’s nice to know they’re around just in case I need ‘em. Plus, they look kinda like they were forged in fancy!
“The Dagger and Double Dagger”. These are symbols used to indicate footnotes, typically when an asterisk (*) has already been used for the first footnote: the dagger marks the second footnote, and the double dagger marks the third footnote in sequence. The dagger is sometimes called an "obelisk" or "obelus", while the double dagger is also referred to as a "diesis". Didn't know you were gonna learn something today, did ya?
