Giosetta Fioroni, Double Liberty (detail), 1965
Anchor Double Liberty IPA - Argonaut Collection (Picked up at Trader Joe’s). A 3 of 4. If you think of the regular Liberty as your starting point when having this, you’ll love it. If you think of a modern really aggressive West Coast Double IPA as your starting point, you’ll probably not like it as much. This is quite heavily hopped and has a great pine and citrus nose - there’s a bit of earthiness and herbal qualities up front as well. There’ s a creamy and bready malt back to this - the hop bitterness is definitely in check. The malt body is distinctly Anchor - it features a whole lot of cascade quite well.
