I've never thought about a Yugioh bakery AU before... what do you headcanon??
I did write a two part YGO cafe fic (planned more but it hasn't happened yet OTL) where Yugi ran a cafe/game shop and Atem, a prince/important guy from Egypt, visited Japan and fell for Yugi.
So let's think of a fresh spin with a bakery this time...
Yami Bakura works at Atem’s bakery “Spirit’s Sweets” to pay off a debt (ie, he was an asshole who caused Atem a bunch of trouble and Atem was like “you either work for me or you go to prison”)
(Yami Bakura calls Atem “the Pharaoh” (derogatory) in conversation)
One day Ryou walks in with his messy white hair and striped shirt and practical shoulder bag and soft smile. He’s totally not Bakura’s type. Doesn’t stop Bakura from staring.
Ryou’s order is super boring (large tea, croissant, here’s my card, thank you so much!) but Bakura’s eyes track Ryou to a seat by the window where Ryou takes some trading cards out of his bag and starts deck building. Still not Bakura’s type. Still hard to look away.
When it’s time for Bakura’s break, he settles across from Ryou, careful not to disturb the cards on the table top. Ryou is more than a little surprised. Bakura starts off with “You know, the ‘change of heart’ spell card is banned from competitive play.”
Ryou smiles again and gently explains that the card was recently un-banned, though each player is limited to one. “Not that it matters. I mostly play with my friends. I haven’t played competitively in years.”
That gets them rolling on a good conversation. Sometimes it’s about cards or the bakery, sometimes it’s just comfortable silence as Ryou shuffles his cards or Bakura eats his sandwich.
The break goes by fast, and soon Bakrua has to clock back in. “The pharaoh hates when I am even five minutes late.” Even though he doesn’t know who the pharaoh is, Bakura laughs at how dramatic it sounds. It’s such a cute laugh. Not that Ryou is Bakura’s type or anything.
Ryou tucks his cards away and says he should get going. He thanks Bakura for the conversation. Then: “Here, take this in case you ever wish to speak of cards again. Otherwise I will simply have to come back here for more pastries.” And Ryou gives Bakura a napkin with his number on it.
Bakura takes it, stunned, and watches Ryou leave.
Bakura stuffs the napkin in his pocket and goes to clock back in. Ryou isn’t his type, at all, but Bakura doesn’t much care about that so much anymore.
