see the difference between the long walk (2025)'s endings are, to me, kind of all about the tragedy in our canonical one. yes, love changed the book ending, and yes, it means nothing. we've retold it, we've changed everything we can, and nothing happens. ray gets both of his wishes, and doesn't live to see either of them. pete gains a family member, a love, just to lose him. it's a greek-myth tragedy, of sorts, like. we'll tell it again and again and again, and you will hope for a difference we both know will never appear. that's gorgeous to me. I love it. in the alternate ending, though—it is, a bit, about love prevailing. and that's beautiful. like pete having the chance to sit with his instincts and pushing them down because ray fucking died, so it needs to mean something. I need to do something with it. and then he does. he sits with his grief, alone, but he changes things, even if only for a few. that's beautiful. but that's not a greek-myth ending! it's a gutting one, definitely, but it's not a capital-T Tragedy. and it's so critical that a story about love and war and never winning a goddamn thing is all about the capital-T of it all. #tome
and if you post about harry potter in 2026 fuck you for real
there is objectively something terribly comedic about being in the worst mental state ever but having to cancel your therapy appointment you need so bad because of that fact in particular. like oh ok
