answer ALL THE QUESTIONS for your mage oc!!!
i’m glad I asked u for clarification and found out u didn’t mean every single one, because i would prob be dead rn if I’d had to type out forty answers.
without further ado, tho, here are my answers for precious boi Samedi Lavellan:
1. When did your mage’s magic first manifest?
At the age of six, when he was still but a wee babe who frequently wet the bedroll.
2. Did they try to keep it a secret from their family/close friends?
Nope. He was scared to hell that lightning was shooting out of his hands and immediately went to his sister. She took him to the clan’s keeper, who reassured him and shortly after started training him to control it.
3. Has their magic ever hurt anyone by mistake?
Twice. Both times when he got angry during an argument with a loved one. The first time was as a teenager during a fight with his sister. In a flare of temper, he caused a jar to fly out and shatter on the side of a tree right next to where she was standing, and some of the shards wound up cutting her (idc if force magic isn’t a specialization in Inquisition, Sam can use it to some extent fukin fite me ok??).
thE S ECOND TIME was right after Dorian told him that he would be leaving for Tevinter. Sam was incredibly upset by the news, and they wound up in an argument. He eventually started crying and turned away from Dorian, and when Dorian moved to grab his arm (in an attempt to comfort him), he yanked it away and accidentally struck out with his storm magic. He shocked Dorian’s hand and arm, but didn’t do serious damage. ;;
4. Which spells came naturally and which were more difficult to learn?
Storm magic is definitely easiest for him. Also, as mentioned above, he has a little bit of force magic that came pretty intuitively. Spirit magic was trickier, and he never was able to learn any healing magic, though he did try for a time.
5. What is their favourite spell?
He honestly dislikes using magic in battle (as he dislikes fighting at all), so mostly he prefers spells that can serve some other function. He knows a little fire magic, and will use it for lighting campfires, candles, etc. He’s also been known to use his force magic to send objects shooting across the room when he’s too lazy to walk over to get them… (Dorian hates it bc he’s always afraid Sam’s going to fail to catch whatever he’s made fly toward him, and that it’s going to smack him in the face or break against something behind him)
6. Do they put a lot of time into studying magic?
Not…really… Sam hates studying of any kind, and prefers practical application by training rather than reading theories and histories on different types of magic.
7. What attracted them to their specialization?
He’s always been intrigued by the Fade, and was drawn by the thought of learning more about it and how to use some of its power himself. Mostly, though, it’s because his trainer was the only one who didn’t scare the crap out of him.
8. How does your mage get along with other mages?
Pretty well, for the most part. He’s kind of a little ray of sunshine who tries to get along with most people, though struggles more with those he disagrees with. His relationship with Vivienne was shaky, since he disagreed with her stance that circles were a necessary institution and that mages shouldn’t all be free.
9. Does your mage have any sympathy for Templars?
Yes, especially after getting to know Cullen and finding out about his lyrium addiction. He sees Templars as somewhat prisoners to the Circle like mages, especially as they’re made to take lyrium despite the effects that addiction to it brings.
10. Do they consider magic a blessing or a curse?
A mixture. He sees the blessing in it and the ways it can be used for good, but the way it’s viewed by so much of society outside of his and some other Dalish clans leads him to feel, at times, like he’s cursed by its touch.
