How much of a hypocrite cooper is. His conversation with Donald before leaving about how it doesn’t make him wrong that he wants to go on the mission because of his love of exploration, “the foundations solid”, which he’s right but it’s still selfish. He berates Amelia for the same reason despite her foundation being solid. I think in that scene he’s punishing himself; he regrets going on the mission after what happened on miller’s, Amelia reminds him too much of himself and he’s trying to stop her from “making the same mistake he did”

I was really confused as to what Doyle was supposed to mean as a character but I figured it out. He’s there to oppose Cooper’s hope. He cares but is undeniably the most realistic. “That’s why we have plan b.” Something about the way he looked back at Amelia struggling on miller’s and didn’t do anything for a few seconds before hesitating and calling Case out to save her.
