There is a playful glimmer in Doll's eyes. He's right, and they both know it. There is little she can hide from him, for he is one of the few in the Carnival that truly knows her. She would almost consider it a weakness, were it not for the fact that she knows him just as well. They are on even ground and, though Doll usually prefers to have the upper hand, with him it's not so bad.

Doll's head cocks sharply to one side and she lifts her brow at him.

Where have you been?

She hasn't seen him around much lately, and despite how much she likes to play distant and aloof, she rarely has patience when Scorpion decides to disappear for any length of time.

It had been years, so many years, since Emily had been beyond the Asylum’s tall, iron gates. Even after reclaiming their freedom, she and the rest of the girls had not ventured back out into the world that had locked them away in the first place. But even so, Emily could not possibly imagine that this was still London.

The last thing she could recall was tumbling through darkness, plummeting away from a star-filled sky with the rest of the girls at her side. How...how...had she ended up all alone in a decrepit-looking carnival?

A hand brushed against her thigh and she cursed silently when she realized that her sharpened spoon was no longer strapped in place. She had nothing with which to defend herself should the need arise. Confused and more than a little uneasy, Emily ventured forth, towards the bright lights and the noise, hoping to find someone who could tell her where she was.

Doll’s whole head rolls with her eyes; a long, luxuriant maneuver that ends with her fixing the Scorpion with a withering stare. He must have used that line on her a million times by now. With a sharp nod and the quick rise of her eyebrows, the demoness glances back toward the tent flap, fluttering her hands in a shooing motion.

Another new addition to the Carnival. Painted Doll had long since stopped seeking out the new Carnies when they arrived. There was no rush to find and meet anyone, not when they had eternity to get to know one another. And more often than not, she didn’t care for the new arrivals anyway. Why waste her time when, surely, this one wouldn’t be any different?

Though, admittedly, as whispers of this new Carnie spread through the Carnival, Doll’s curiosity was roused by what she heard. Apparently this new one was a man, and a handsome one at that. And she had seen more than one Carnival girl dissolve into giddy giggles at the mere thought of him. Not unlike the way she, herself, often rendered men tongue-tied, it seemed. But Doll was more stubborn than she was curious, and she didn’t want to make the first approach. If the new Carnie had any interest, she would let him come to her.
