Today, mom picked me up and we went to Panera Bread and I had a broccoli and cheese soup bread bowl. She also took me to the doctor. We are going to make an appointment to ct scan my leg.

Today I have my pre-op physical from my family doctor and later i get my pre-op bloodwork done as well.

Things are finally in motion for my top surgery and im so happy!

Another Dr. Appt

My thyroid still isn’t responding to my methimizole like it should.  We’ve upped my medication to 30mg/day, and even tho it’s been better I’m still hyper.  So it looks like we’re going to move forward with the radioactive iodine treatment.

Under the cut: what to expect, and how I’m handling it (spoilers: a lot of shit, and not well).

Radioactive Iodine Treatment

I’m still waiting on my labs to know for sure if we’re going to go through with this, but it’s looking like a solid 90% chance that we will.  It’s apparently a two day process - go in on the first day and get a scan done to determine how much I need, and then go in the next day and get the dosage.  From there, it’s three days of being pretty much completely sequestered - I can’t go to work, I have to use my own bathroom, I can’t sleep in the same bed as my husband, I have to stay four feet away from people pretty much all the time.  I’ll probably try to do this over a weekend so I don’t have to miss three whole days of work, but that also means cancelling plans, since I have the next six weekends booked with plans, so something gonna have to go.  Being an extrovert, I fucking hate this.  

After that, it will take up to six month for my thyroid to slowly fizzle out and die.  My hormones will be all over the place; it can be a slow process.  I’ll be having blood work done pretty consistently to see where my levels are at, and once I’m hypo, they will start me out on low doses of synthetic hormones and adjust from there.  It may take some time to get the right dosage.  Hopefully after all that, I will have a body that, even with a dead thyroid gland, will have the hormones it needs to run normally.

How I’m Doing

I’ve known this was an option we might have to pursue from the beginning, and it was brought up at my last dr. appt back in October.  I figured it would come to this, but actually facing the magnitude of what I’m going to spend the next six months to a year dealing with fucking sucks.  Being separated from everyone for three days sounds like hell tbqh, and I’ve already been dealing with depression, anxiety, and gaining weight for a while now.  I can’t imagine going hypo is going to help any of those things, so I’m about to feel all out of whack for god knows how long.

I feel overwhelmed.  I know this is going to be better in the long run, but I’ve been dealing with this shit for a year now, and it’s about to get harder for a bit.  There’s no immediate relief in sight.  Ugh.

I just wanna feel normal again.
