So I guess Twelve Forever is cancelled...

This is... kind of a topic I didn’t really want to touch on for a bit. But, with that recent tweet, it seems that the show’s cancellation is official. The fandom kind of had fears of this and saw it coming ever since we heard about the studio that did the show being disbanded, and the whole controversy over you-know-what definitely didn’t help, but...

It still sucks. Because I was really, GENUINELY into this show, and thought it had a lot of potential! It wasn’t just a classic, episodic slice-of-life, it was a really well-done and compelling coming-of-age story. It dealt with topics relating to coming-of-age that you don’t always see like being LGBT, and in general the show handled the balance of still enjoying yourself, while maturing, in a really mature and nuanced direction. The fact that I liked just about the entire main cast certainly doesn’t help with my disappointment; I was really curious to see how Gwen might factor in as a new addition (and if she might become one, no less), the possibility of a new island representing Reggie’s maturity based on the ending shots, Reggie’s feelings about Conelly, Esther’s family, the truth of Endless, the Butt Witch and Dr Champion’s potential true natures, etc.

I felt myself genuinely invested in these characters and even theorizing. And I definitely hyper-fixated a lot, because I made several comprehensive posts discussing and theorizing on Endless, the show’s time period, and even a full-blown essay about the show’s symbolism and themes through the characters of Endless. There was definitely a lot of excitement about what direction the show could take next, especially with Butt Witch’s seemingly incongruous details and Dr Champion’s backstory, all combined with Elmer’s state...

I mean at this point, I guess the show is entirely in the fandom’s hands. Obviously not from a legal standpoint, but it seems the fans are now the only ones who are going to be making content about Twelve Forever. With that in mind, I guess any theories or headcanons you make about the show, you may as well go fully through with, because it’s not like there’s going to be an official canon to disprove it. Death of the author, I suppose.

Granted, maybe we should never say never. Perhaps the show will continue as some form of graphic novel (like Invader Zim), but on the other hand I doubt that. Personally, it’d be neat to see someone write a fanfic or outline for a Season 2 of sorts, but I dunno...

I think I might still make a few more posts from now on Twelve Forever. Again, now that the show is cancelled, basically anything the fandom says may as well be canon, so I might as well have fun with this.
