Poor Mrs. Atwell just wanted to check on her kitten Snowball today, as he was strangely inactive lately. But a simple check up turned into a horrible disaster. An electricity drop turned the MRI into an oven and the poor little thing… well, you can imagine what happened.

After a long day at work, Chinnery came home downcast. All it took for him to break into tears was your innocent question about his day. Now Matthew was sobbing openly, clinging to you for dear life. Big drops of tears were soaking your shirt.

He was mumbling something incoherently at the nape of your neck between his sobs, while you rocked his body gently and held him close. Your heart clenched with pity for him.

You kissed the crown of his head in an attempt to comfort him. The man only tightened his grip on you in response.

"I’m very sorry, honey." "I'm a horrible murderer!" It was progress. At least this sentence was coherent. Even if it's self-degrading.

"Matt, look at me." He lifted his head, but his eyes still weren’t looking at you. You cupped his face as gently as you could and waited until he finally locked his sad blue eyes with yours. You tilted your head to look him in the eyes and tried to put all of your love into your voice for him to hear and accept your truth.

"Love, you couldn’t predict there’d be some kind of problem with electricity. I know if you could, you’d never put this little thing in the MRI. You love animals, it’s just a horrible accident. This is not your fault."

Tears were still streaming down his face, but he sighed and nodded, acknowledging your words. You brought him closer again and hugged him tightly, locking his body in the circle of your arms. He mumbled a ‘thank you’ and rested his head on your shoulder. You can only hope that there will be fewer accidents like this from now on.
