Is Dr. Hariss a good dad and husband? Does he genuinely love and care for them? Amazing chapter btw!

I think that he is a little distant but by 1950s standards an excellent dad- becuase he actually speaks to his children and cares about their well being lmao. Checking their homework, asking about their sports, etc. He is a little firm with the kids but consistent with 1950s standards. His kids think they have a good dad.

And his wife would be pretty surprised to learn that he is obsessing over some random stick of a patient locked away in his care. But she'd just brush it off and say her husband is so charitable- devoting his career to treating deranged people who can't care for themselves. She thinks his patients are lucky to have someone so intelligent who devotes so much to his job.

His neighbors think he's a great guy but are surprised that someone as nice and smart as him chooses to spend his day with insane people locked up by the state. They think he should have been a cardiologist or something more pleasant. Still great to invite to the barbecue though

May be controversial but after watching Episode 5, Dr. Harrow… isn’t a half bad therapist? Like I know he’s imagined by Marc and Steven as part of the Duat magic and their memories and coping with it (and the sedation scenes are rough) but if he was an actual therapist? He’s pretty decent.

He acknowledges both Marc and Steven as individuals. Unlike IRL Harrow or Khonshu, he doesn’t call them broken. “Calling” Steven’s mom, while a little gaslight-y, was a solid strategy to help him realize his mother is dead. He also said the self-reflection process had been going on for hours, meaning he was giving the system time to reach a very important place in their healing. Each time the gruff guards came in, he always seemed concerned for Marc’s safety, understanding that he wasn’t acting out of malice but fear. He has Knick knacks in his office that make the place feel more welcoming than a cold hospital (a little reckless but orderlies seem to be ready to go if a patient grabs something). The Ned Flanders/Ted Lasso vibes calm me.

All in all, I kinda wish he was my therapist.

BoB: Chapter 7-Dark Nights

Zipporah ran through Setauket erratically, shouting, her hair coming out of its bun and her normally kempt dress askew. 

“Help! Help! Someone help!” She cried, tears streaming down her face as many of the townspeople stopped and watched the dramatics. As expected, Captain Simcoe came tumbling out of the tavern, a mug of ale in his hand, followed closely by his soldiers. 

“Ms. Strong, what in the heavens is wrong?” He asked as he gave her a once over, from her disheveled hair, to her rumpled clothes.

Summary: Ben gets some religious advice from his little brother and Charlie and her dad finally see the mental horrors that war has wreaked on Levi's mind.

What would Dr. Harris do if he found out his patient is not heterosexual? Is he old fashioned in that way (it being the 50s)?

Excellent question.

He has actually been aware for some time that its a possibility for Alfred but he finds the topic of orientation very boring. He also knows that Alfie himself may not really understand the full extent of what he felt for Del. But his feelings for Del or anyone else that isnt him are not all that interesting to him and so he wouldn't bother pursuing that route of inquiry.

Harris is quite accepting and new age in that he doesnt give a fuck about who is with who, he only cares if they have a deeply interesting psyche that he can manipulate and torture (ehm Alfie).

Every time he recieves a 'homosexual' case across his desk, he rolls his eyes and just gives them the standard treatment that he considers the catchall... Luckily some of his other colleagues are more focused (frightened) by these cases and he is all but willing to let them take care of those cases, as he dosent feel it falls under the umbrella of psychiatry to begin with.
