No matter how many years it had been since she and Dr. Grant had crossed paths, it never ceased to amaze her how naturally they both fell in line with one another. She felt him take her hand and intertwine their fingers and affirm his support of her. Rubbing her thumb against his hand, she felt her heart skip a beat, “I know Alan, I know you do.” Despite everything that had happened, everything that life had put between the two of them, Ellie knew despite all of that, she could always count on Alan Grant. “I wouldn’t ask you to do this, but you’re the only person I trust. . .”

Damn, maybe she had misread this? Ellie had gathered up her courage to ask Dr. Grant out, and she couldn't decide if he was interested or if she completely misread the past few months. "Uhm," Ellie laughed nervously as she tucked her hair behind her ear, "I mean, only if you want to, I don't want you getting in trouble or anything but I just thought it'd be nice to get to know one another outside a dig." She shrugged, "since we seem to get along so well."

Ellie blinked back tears as he confessed this, wiping at her eyes she said, "there were so many times, so many times I wanted to pick up the phone and call you. Tell you about me being single again. . .tell you how much I still loved you, but I was always so worried you didn't feel that way anymore."

"Alan!" Ellie yelled out as she got to their apartment, "Alan! are you home?!" Tossing her book bag on the couch she looked around to try to find Alan in the apartment they shared. Looking a round she didn't find him but saw their bedroom door was slightly open. Rushing into the room, she saw he was passed out, still in his clothes taking a nap.

"Alan!" Ellie grinned, jumping on top of his sleeping form she bent down and started to kiss his cheek, "Alan wake uppppp," kissing him over and over she said, "wake up. wake up. wake up."

Ellie was feeling every emotion in that moment as Alan got off the plane with the other survivors of Isla Sorna. Alan had sworn to her that this was just a fly over, that’d he’d be home in two days tops. That this couple was paying big money for it and it’d help with the dig at least through the end of the year. She was reluctant to let him leave but knew they needed the money. But then when their oldest, Charlie said that Daddy was on the phone and she heard his screams along with the dinosaurs, she knew the flight turned into something else.

Thanks to her friend Mark Degler, who occasionally guest lectures at her university who is a full time employee of the Defense department, they had called almost every faction of the military there. Relief flooded through her when they got word that he and Billy were safe, and she dropped her kids off at her parents and went to get Alan.

But as she saw him, a little worse for wear, but still holding that smile he only had for her. She wanted to smack him honestly. But as soon as she heard his voice, she broke down, pulling him into a hug. “What happened??”

Ellie listened to him talk and felt a tightness in her chest, "oh Alan," she said softly, as they sat next to each other on the plane ride home, only moments ago sharing their first kiss since 1993. Reaching out, she took his hand and squeezed it, "there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you. . ."

Past meets Present

A few weeks after returning from the Biosyn sanctuary Owen found himself heading back out to his cabin in the woods for a meetup with a new friend. While he no longer lives there on a daily basis he ventures back every now and then to keep the place maintained and to check on Blue and Beta if they decide to come around and see him. Since he returned he, Claire and Maisie found a place in town to call home so that Masie can enjoy being around kids her age, and experience things that she's been kept from since she was nine years old. It's been good so far if a bit of a learning curve for all of them but they seem to be adjusting. After a once around the cabin it seems to be in great shape. The gentle breeze from the east is rustling the leaves of the nearby trees, and bird song breaks the silence sporadically. He hasn't heard a raptor call or chittering nearby thus far so he settles himself near the fire pit tossing bits of wood into the circle before picking up a piece to widdle while he waits for Grant to arrive. He's tried not to annoy the man with calls seeing as that business in Washington was going down for awhile but that's all done with for the most part now. He's looking forward to catching up with him, and discussing things they have in common. There's also something that he's been itching to tell Alan about for awhile but hasn't found a way to bring it up. Perhaps today over a beer or three he can bring it up or knowing his luck Blue will party crash, and he won't have the time.
