DEWANDA WISE as KAYLA WATTS JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION (2022), dir. Colin Trevorrow
after 29 years, ellie sattler and alan grant are endgame 🎉 (jurassic world dominion, 2022)
The New World
With adrenaline still running high despite having been in relative safety for the past hour or so Owen found himself still on edge, and not likely to process anything that's happened for quite some time to come. Perhaps once their plane was airborne, and heading home he might be able to at least rest but that too seems highly unlikely given his dreams will no doubt be filled with near death experiences, and flashes of massive teeth.
As he steps onto the ramp heading up into the plane at Claire's side his footfalls sound ridiculously loud as they strike the metal. It would also appear that Beta isn't too thrilled about all of the surrounding noise caused by a herd of humans and their preparations. Soft angry trills could be heard from the crate that was being settled up against a wall out of the way where hopefully the raptor will be able to sleep away the first leg of the journey via the aid of a sedative. One by one people find their seats to get strapped into for the unconfortable flight to come. It sort of reminded Owen of Noah's arc as everyone seemed to be grouping up in two's to talk and strap themselves in. His daughter came over to check in with him, and Claire a moment before going to sit beside Kayla to chat about all manner of things. The growing bond between the two brought a weak smile to his face as he hadn't much energy left to do much more than shuffle along.
As he sat down gingerly to draw a strap over his shoulder he noticed Dr. Satler and Grant across from himself and Claire. He would dearly love to get to know them both better and pick their brains about a million different things but he didn't want to come off like too much of an overzealous fan but then again they all seem to share a level of excitement about each others contributions to the Jurassic World they find themselves living in. Not too long after everyone is situated the plane taxi'd down the runway and lifted into the air reaching what hopefully is a safe altitude. There's a bit of anxiety thrumming in his veins given a few short hours ago he survived a plane crash, but by all appearances he seems fine.
His eyes suddenly meet Ellie's and his smile softens. A chuckle escapes him, "I can't thank you, and Alan enough for what you've done for my family. I know; I know. I keep sayin it like a broken record but --- thanks. Honestly? There's so much I'd like to ask the both of you that I'm barely keepin myself from bombarding you with questions."

pack-dynamics:
Owen listens intently as he tries to mentally piece together gaps in what he knows of what’s happened in the past few days. “Seems like no matter what any of us do that isn’t related to dinosaurs directly ends up circling around to be tied to them in the end. Will you be heading back to uni to work on how to fix the farming issue post locust plague? Or heading back t'Montana a bit?”
He shifts his weight trying to find a comfortable position to sit in, and eventually gives up deciding upon sticking his legs out into the middle crossing one leg over the other. “I did a little bit of everything before heading to the island. The navy paid my way through school, and I traveled a bit working on various projects building up experience.” Owen gestures vaguely, “I guess you could say I’m an animal behaviorist with a unique skillset, and a decent amount of luck.”
Ellie listened to him and chuckled, “yeah I guess so. If you had talked to me after the first park, I would’ve told you that you were crazy.” She looked at Alan and back to Owen, “I’m honestly not sure. I want to get the locust DNA sample to my friend over at Georgetown to confirm what we already know. And then I’ll take it over to my contact at the Times. But after that, I guess it’s up in the air. I didn’t expect to be getting back together with Alan, I’m thrilled but I guess it all just depends on what we decide to do.”
“I did read about your time in the first park, it’s fascinating what you were able to do with the raptors.” Ellie commented, trying not to think about having to run for her life from them at the first park.
"Yeah, there's gonna be a lotta fallout. Don't hestitate to call in for backup if you both need it. M'sure Claire will want to help in any way she can. She'd be better at talkin t'people than me but I'm in too if you need me." Owen glances towards Alan with a knowing smile. "See? All ya needed was a few dinosaurs thrown in the mix and voila. What's funny is same thing happened with Claire n'me. We drifted for awhile then reconnected over getting back t'the island to find Blue before the volcanic activity got her. Didn't think I'd be getting a second chance with Claire so I hope that your second chance with Alan pans out. If you ever want t'visit there's an open invite just let us know you're comin out so I can make sure the area is secured." Speaking of raptors he glances in the direction of where Beta is snoozing away then back towards Ellie. "I think you could apply the same technique's I used with the raptor pack on any of dinosaurs. There may be a few exceptions but it'd be worth a shot. It might be worth looking into to reduce issues between us and them but at the end of the day they're still wild intelligent beings that're gonna wanna do their own thing. You interested in trying? I'd be happy to show you once things have calmed down with Blue."

Tango had survived the old park and on the outskirts of the new park, along with being captured and put in a cage of some weird enclosure. With all she had been through her long historied life, one would think her survival would be coming to a end, especially since now the old raptor had to adapt to a new set of changes once she found herself out side the weird enclosure.
She had survived scavanging off the bigger predators kills and stealing kills from strange animals. She stayed away from cities and towns, because she had learned not to trust humans, there was once a time she had trusted one but he was long gone especially after the big one took over and asserted her domenance. She only ventured into the populated areas after night fall to scavange what she could eat, until one night she had stepped into a trap and tranqed.
When she awoke she found herself in a metal container that vaguely reminded her of her childhood. She pressed snout to one of the holes, after she had unsteady gotten to her feet and got used to the movement of the container as it moved down the road, and sniffed trying to catch some scents
Tango watched him leave, kind of impressed at the human’s knowledge about how not to activate her prey drive as he went to grab a kit of some kind. She had not quite used to the touch of someone touching her skin, but she was slowly beginning to learn to trust Blue’s judgement of this human. She was reminded of a man from when she was a pup, some one who always wore shorts and was a man who carried himself like an alpha. At least until, the big raptor took over the pride and she didn’t see him as often as she had used to. “He half reminds me of someone that I knew as a pup…” she chirped at Blue as she half remembered Muldoon especially the one memory where he was teaching her the basics of hunting.
She hissed a couple times as he flushed out the couple of the deeper ones but refrained from attacking him since he was helping. She eventually got used to him touching her skin. She took the time to study the area they were in taking in the surroundings. It might not not be a tropical forest like the island but it at least had trees and cover. She noticed the birds singing and could see a couple of smaller creatures moving around the underbrush.
Owen finished torturing the raptor and put away what he could as most of it would have to be dumped in the trash bin. “Should do alright now.” He has backed away mindful of where the raptors are as he cleans up.
Blue taps the ground with a claw then shakes her head before putting a little space between herself and the older girl. “Handler?” Asking about her person. “Or alpha?” Like Owen was to their pack.
“When we were pups, he seemed like the alpha, but when we grew up he lost that when they introduced a raptor that was bigger than the rest and she took over the pack,” she watched Owen while explaining. “So he became a handler and the bond between us weakened because he kept his distance after that.”
Her claw shifted the dirt under her. “I wish things happened different and the rest of the pack didn’t go after and take him out when they could.”
Blue circled around so that she was facing the elder raptor. She clicked thoughtfully as her claws dug into the moist soil beneath her feet. “We have made the same mistake.” She mentions with a quick glance towards Owen. “Owen– that is his name. He raised us, taught us, took care of us when others came round. We were released to hunt another of our kind and it convinced us to turn on the humans. It was a mistake. I realized it nearly too late and lost my sisters to the very being we had been meant to take down.” Her posture stiffens as she recalls the events that lead to Owen leaving her on the island, and what came a long time after that with the hunters that came and the one that shot her. “Some of their kind are mine. Owen’s family. If you stay here they can not come to harm lest they do something to us. Humans have not come here–yet. There is plenty to hunt.”
She nodded as she watched the the other raptor, taking in what Blue stated. “I see and which ones are his family?” she asked glancing at Owen working out who she could possibly bond with when she was sure she could trust them. “Wouldn’t want to accidently hurt them.
“A hunt could do me me some good also,” she stated watching the animals in the underbrush. Her stomach growled slightly she caught sight of a deer, and turned her head trying to work the creature out.
“They’re not here now. There is a female, and a female child.” They will have to view the human family from afar before drawing in closer. If there are other humans then they will have to suss out the situation before making their move. While the humans can fend for themselves it doesn’t mean they should have to. Blue drew in a breath as her talon clicked the ground repeatedly. “Do you want to chase or attack?” She feels that it would do Tango some good to get back to being a hunter, feeling a creatures life force end with a quick twist of their head, and tasting the rush of fresh blood flowing across the tongue. “Your stomach might give you away though. It’s louder than that lone wolf that thinks its going to take that deer down without a pack. It could be amusing to watch it fail then take them both.”
She had noticed the wolf and eyed it figuring that in the rare circumstance that the wolf accidentally succeeded bringing the deer down it would acomplished the hard part, that was how she survived on the island between the parks, with rexy killing and she picked at the left overs.
"It might be amusing to watch,” she nodded as her claws shifted in the gravel. “I wouldn’t mind chasing im not a young raptor anymore.
Blue scoffs which is a rather odd sound emitting from the raptor. "Even an elder you are still lethal." There's nothing really that she's come up against that would pose a problem save perhaps one of those big fuzzy things that stands tall when provoked. It's also very loud. She supposes that its supposed to be intimidating but when you've gone up against a giant raptor bigger than a Rex there's nothing too intimidating in existence. The wolf makes a pass at the deer and seems to get in a few good swipes at it but never coming quite close enough to sinking in teeth. It manages to get kicked by a hoof which does not bode well for the predator. Still it puts up a good fight as does the deer but the pair of them are making far too much noise that will attract the attention of other predators in the area and Blue refuses to have anything come this close to the cabin or her pup that is not too far away. Blue nudges Tango with the side of her head then slinks off into the forest to circle around and get a good position to drive the deer right into Tango. The wolf wont know what hit it until its too late. She takes up position waiting for Tango to send her signal that she is also ready. If all goes well she can go and fetch her pup and bring her here to enjoy the multi-kill and meet Tango.

Past meets Present
A few weeks after returning from the Biosyn sanctuary Owen found himself heading back out to his cabin in the woods for a meetup with a new friend. While he no longer lives there on a daily basis he ventures back every now and then to keep the place maintained and to check on Blue and Beta if they decide to come around and see him. Since he returned he, Claire and Maisie found a place in town to call home so that Masie can enjoy being around kids her age, and experience things that she's been kept from since she was nine years old. It's been good so far if a bit of a learning curve for all of them but they seem to be adjusting. After a once around the cabin it seems to be in great shape. The gentle breeze from the east is rustling the leaves of the nearby trees, and bird song breaks the silence sporadically. He hasn't heard a raptor call or chittering nearby thus far so he settles himself near the fire pit tossing bits of wood into the circle before picking up a piece to widdle while he waits for Grant to arrive. He's tried not to annoy the man with calls seeing as that business in Washington was going down for awhile but that's all done with for the most part now. He's looking forward to catching up with him, and discussing things they have in common. There's also something that he's been itching to tell Alan about for awhile but hasn't found a way to bring it up. Perhaps today over a beer or three he can bring it up or knowing his luck Blue will party crash, and he won't have the time.
@dr-alangrant
Alan had taken a liking to Owen, a sort of kindred spirit in a way that he’d never quite favored Ian or Billy or anyone else for that. Owen had a respect for the raptors that most people seemed to lack and it was that respect, that appreciation of the gravity of what that respect meant that had brought Alan along as a friend. He’d finally finished up with that Senate committee thing that he’d been dragged into, had stood by Ellie’s side as her witness about the locusts, and had finally rekindled that relationship with her, which was honestly the best part of his whole damn experience with BioSyn.
He drove the rugged Jeep up the mountains, off the usual roads, following the path he’d been instructed to use and finally spotted the cabin. He approached slowly and got out of the car, listening quietly for the sound of raptors before he headed around the vehicle and spotted him. “Owen.”
Alan’s feet carried him over to the man, a hand extended out for a shake or for a hug, whichever the younger man would prefer. “No Claire or Maisie today?”
The sound of tires breaking branches and rolling over gravel drew his attention and with that he rose to his feet wiping his hands off on the front of his jeans. His smile grew as the older man came into view and he made his way over to greet him.
“Hey,” he greeted grasping Alan’s hand. He then leaned in to do the one armed hug thing before letting go and taking a step back. “Glad you could make it. Yeah, I’m flying solo for most of the weekend. Claire is sorting out a few things with a job prospect and Masie is hangin out with a friend she’s made. They’re gonna come by before you have to head back though. They don’t want to miss ya.”
Owen tips his head towards the Jeep. “Need help with your stuff or could I offer you a beer?”
Alan looked around, eyes and ears attuned to the surroundings and aware enough that most places weren’t safe anymore. He smiled as he mentioned Claire and Maisie being sure not to miss him, “Ellie would have my head if I didn’t check in on them.” He flashed him a half grin and waved off his offer of help with his bag. “One bag. I’ve got it. Beer would be great though.” He returned to his truck, grabbed his small duffle then headed into the cabin and set his bag down on the sofa.
“How are you three doing?”
He knew it was a loaded question. Since BioSyn Valley, the world had started to learn to coexist with the dinosaurs in a way he’d never anticipated. Hell, Ellie had damn near adopted a trike that found her way into their expansive garden. He glanced out the window with an eyebrow raise, “You see her and the little one around?”
Owen couldn't help but softly snicker as he saw his friend take a look about the area. "Yup," he agreed making the 'p' pop at the end. "Think Claire would do bout the same if our positions were reversed." As Alan went to grab his bag Owen made his way into the cabin to the kitchen pulling out two bottles of beer then removing the caps before making his way over. "Think we're alright," he responds while handing over one of the bottles. "Have a seat wherever ya' want." Owen slumped down on a lone chair that faced the sofa and seemed to sink back into it as if he sits there more often than not. "The girls seem to be thriving. Claire's in high demand and Masie is finally getting to enjoy being a teenager. I like seeing them both happy but we all have our moments. Can't be nearly eaten by carnivores and not have issues." He shrugs that off with a shake of his head before taking a long pull from the bottle. "How're things shaking out with you an'Ellie?" Owen rests the bottle against his knee as he watches Alan glance out the window and decides to answer the question posed to him before his friend gets to answer the one he pitched out there to be fielded. "Were you askin about me, and the raptors a moment ago or my girls?" He teases knowing full well Alan meant Claire and Masie. "Well, honestly they all are my girls. Come to think of it I'm out numbered ---but I wouldn't change a thing." He gestures towards the window.
"I've seen Blue and Beta every now and then. Beta's grown since last you saw her but still a little thing. I think they come around more for my sake than theirs to be honest." He ends fondly but quickly adds, "Have to mention it even though I'm fairly sure you already know but if you're going to go outside make sure I'm nearby. Rather not lose a friend on their first trip out to the cabin."
@dr-alangrant
He raised his eyebrows as he tucked one of his hands into the pocket on his jeans and shook his head before taking a long sip of the beer. The bottle came away from his mouth with a soft ‘ahh’ and he stared at the dark brown bottle. No one knew how deeply affected he and Ellie had been by the first trip. But it had been enough to tear them apart, to end a 3 year relationship. And then he’d gotten lied to and ended up on Sorna, years after that. So after now 3 different encounters that had almost ended in him being eaten? Alan Grant knew a thing or two about the trauma that came with it.
“Doesn’t get easier, Owen. Some days you think it will and then a sound, a shadow will remind you and…” he swallowed thickly, “Don’t be stubborn like me. Get your help now, before it’s too late.”
He smiled as he asked about Ellie, clearly Claire either hadn’t told Owen or Ellie hadn’t told Claire but he supposed either way, he’d have to be the one to share the news. “Ellie is doing well. After we testified about BioSyn, we snuck away with her boys and uh… I finally married her. Should’ve done it 30 years ago but better late than never.”
He flashed him a sideways grin, “Don’t let yours wait 30 years. She’s a good woman, Owen.”
Alan chuckled as he spoke of the raptors still occasionally coming around and then nodded at his warning, “I won’t be heading outside until it’s time for me to head back to my wife.” My wife. The words still felt foreign on his tongue but in the best way possible.
“Oh, Ellie’s boys, Charlie and Liam, they’re planning a reception. Something small at the house. Ellie should be sending an invitation. You’ll get to meet Ellie’s newest, uh, project.”
This new world that is evolving is still fairly strange to him. Who would have thought there would be people specializing in dinosaur related trauma? He has to wonder if perhaps the therapists are trained to handle situations like his given what's happened to his daughter over the past few years. "We talkin issues with teeth or the people we care about? I spose its all related but I haven't really talked to anyone bout what's happened with my daughter. I'm thinkin maybe I oughta try. Something went wrong before you saught help? Don't mean t'pry just curious."
All talk about dinosaur related drama is cast aside the second he hears that Grant eloped His eyes grow wider than saucers as his jaw drops open in shock. "You what?!" Noting the smile he cheers saluting the man with his beer bottle. "Hey! This is great, Alan! I'm really happy for all of you. I want details though. Please tell me you vanished to someplace nice an'not a courthouse. Details man!" Owen grinned so hard that it was starting to hurt his cheeks. "Oh... erm." Now he's a bit on the spot but he can feel a warm weight settle in his chest that he can't ignore. "Not sure either of us are the marrying type but I'm in it for the long haul. We're partners, been partners for awhile even with a few road bumps along the way, and it works. Means a lot that you care though. I appreciate it and can't wait to tell the girls ---well watch you tell the girls about your marry-age."
Owen snickers before draining another inch of three of his beer. "Yeah, to be honest I'd be more afraid of what you're wife would do to me if you got hurt out here." Setting the bottle down on a coaster beside his chair he casts a quick glance out the window before his gaze revists upon the beaming man. "Looking forward to the party! How old're her boys? Have you known 'em before now? And for even more questions what's she getting into now? If it's somethin that's going to be chaotic, and potentially dangerous I might want in."
