give me a hand back down/closed starter/lais

Adam had chosen the time for his entrance into the city carefully; he's still not comfortable around large crowds of people, and he doesn't desire to see what havoc his unpredictable new 'powers' might wreak if he gets too anxious. It's after one AM when he reaches the more populous areas, and there are still enough civilians on the streets to ensure that he negotiates a labyrinthine path through alleys and down narrow one-way streets while searching for somewhere inconspuous to stay.
The thing about alleys is that while they're less likely to have people in them, the people that are in them are usually there for a reason.
It shouldn't come as a surprise when Adam is set upon from a blind spot as he turns a corner, but it does. He gets a vague sense of someone tall and burly without much else as his right arm is grabbed and a knife placed in the vicinity of his throat. There's an almost unintelligible accented threat and an increase of pressure that sends Adam stumbling back into a wall before he collects himself: then he lunges forward into the knife, which disconcerts his attacker, and shoves a hand against the other man's chest. It isn't a very forceful push. Still, Adam feels a collarbone snap under his fingers and the would-be mugger falls away, wrenching Adam's arm in the process. Coming to an abruptly painful stop against the opposite building, the man seems to decide it's past his bedtime after all and skitters off, leaving Adam to lean into the wall and press his left hand against the shallow, already mending cut on his neck, holding the right arm gingerly to his body and glowering at it, as if this will help it heal faster.
