Flight attendant to black female doctor: ‘We’re looking for actual physicians’

We must shed light on instances such as this, when implicit biases afford individuals with less dignity and respect than they deserve. It’s important not to read this and look for excuses, but rather to ask yourself why this happened. In the eyes of the flight attendant, what exactly caused her to question this woman’s profession? What made her more comfortable seeking the help of a white doctor? Hint: It is the countless notions of inferiority that are propagated by implicit, systematically enforced biases set forth by a long history of injustice. My chat is open to anyone having trouble understanding the significance of the situation or issue behind it. As a second year college student having taken courses on the topic, I definitely have some insights to share.
