Yeah she does. She agrees to become hokage and is sworn in after the chunin exams.

After the danzo stuff the clan heads were are all like “your turn is coming to a close we can’t fully trust you anymore even if we respect you” to the third hokage so he’s like “jiraiya either get Tsunade or get get ready to wear the hat yourself. You have until our chunin exam cycle is done and that is final”

So Tsunade hears about everything, including the third’s failures and the terrible shit danzo has done. The Uchiha massacre as well, but not the edited version Sasuke gets.

It’s enough that she doesn’t reject outright.

She gets more info from jiraiya over time, some from his info network and some from Akane’s reports passed on from their sensei.

Orochimaru in a terrorist organization. Orochimaru leaving the organization. Orochimaru suspected as the kage of the new hidden village, Sound. Sound seen making moves with sauna. A potential alliance between one of konohas most infamous missing nins and their increasingly distant allied village. Hanzo no longer controlling ame. A terrorist organization that’s strong enough to get orochimarus attention. A terrorist organization full of S ranks and interested in the jinchuriki.

Konoha will need a strong kage to get through whatever’s coming and they both know it.

Maybe word of the planned invasion reaching her is what rly does it. If she doesn’t step up, jiraiya will have to and in a time with so many moving variables that’d just stabbing a kunai into konohas own hand. And if it’d not her or jiraiya, the flood gates will open for more attacks no matter how well konoha responds to it this time.

Or at least that’s what she says. A big part of her just wants to see Akane and Tenzo. Two men made from the cells of her grandparents corpses.

Or maybe jiraiya outright dragging Akane along to see her is what finally makes her give a definitive yes. He’s even more charismatic as an adult than the was as a kid. Back then, people could look down on his brightness/ promises and write it off as childhood naivety that the real world would shake out of him. Now you can’t even try to look Akane S rank badass Uzumaki in the eye and say he’s naive. Or sheltered or whatever else.

Maybe it’s all those little mannerisms that remind Tsunade of mito (and surprisingly hashirama) that draw her home again.

ALSO I think it’d be funny as fuck for Tsunade to stare at Tenzo and Akane interacting because why the hell is the hashirama cell test tube baby acting just like tobirama when he was trying to hide how fond he was of hashirama’s attention/ fussing and how the hell was Akane acting like hashirama doing the over the top fussing (bc soul reincarnation) mixed with mito sorts tough love and humor (uzumaki) ?

Atsushi escapes the orphanage and the scars it gave him, all those cages too. He even probably misses out on a few blemishes since he leaves before his alternate self (I think?)

And he escapes into the loving hands of a mentor that blesses him with a collar instead of a cage and new scars in the form of a bloody necklace. That particular Dazai is one with twenty-two extra years of insight and yet he doesn't know how to whip a mentee into shape without leaving a red trail behind. He behaves more kindly with Atsushi, maybe speaks more gently, but is he truly kind?

Couldn't he have managed the tiger in some other way?

Maybe, he would tell you, it was the best way to it. Fastest, most effective. But would his silver tongue spell out the same lies if you asked him of Akutagawa? The other mentee whomst he scarred to train, that boy who was just the same age as the Atsushi he took into the Port Mafia. We see countless who learn to manage abilities in other ways, countless who are trained under people that weren't a so called "Demon Prodigy". Some are just as powerful as the children who bled at his hands.

So, there are two Atsushis, both equally scarred, but in different manners for the same reason; to be kept under control and hidden from the light of course. You may apply the logic to Akutagawa just the same but reversed, BEAST Akutagawa with more scars from the streets and the typical Akutagawa possessing some from Dazai.
