Before this episode, I think I viewed Reese killing Dr. Kelly as a bit more like a really messy way of cutting off an abuser, and it still is that, and I saw a little bit how it could also be him becoming the monster he was always thought to be, and I think that bit has really shown itself in his new update. It’s one of the saddest things in the game, how there could have been a way for him not to internalize violence as the only solution to his problems, to come to the conclusion that his monstrous nature is the only way to protect himself from those who fear his monstrous nature. No one ever reached out to him and told him that there was another way, all he knows is that it’s his life or Dr. Kelly’s, because Dr. Kelly never taught him that it was okay to be a monster so long as he didn’t harm anyone else, she taught him to never ever know who he was, and so the moment that he figured it out, of course his mind immediately went to, she thought I was a monster, that’s why she locked me away, so I’ll be a monster. Everything she did made him so much worse. But even though it just starts as killing Dr. Kelly, matricide, the act of taking the life of his own mother, the one who raised him and cared about him even if it wasn’t all of him breaks something within him. After this, there’s no return, he’s a monster now. That’s why the trait save of this episode is so wonderful, that the MC can be the first person to show him that not everyone views him as a monster, and that’s all it takes, just knowing that one person doesn’t see him as a monster, that he doesn’t have to continue this cycle of violence that saves him from becoming what he was feared to be. As much as he should be allowed to take revenge after everything he’s been through, it won’t be good for him, and the town will lose its only doctor. I do wonder if there will ever be a way to fix Reese and Dr. Kelly’s relationship in the hot route, but honestly, I don’t know if getting them to speak again would be for the best, after everything Dr. Kelly has put him through, I wouldn’t blame him if he never wanted to speak to her again. He has every right to cut her off, but I’d also be curious to see if they can find a way to fix things somewhat. I know Dr. Kelly most likely really wants to, but her idea of that might also be taking some of Reese’s freedoms away again since in her head, it’s hard to break him out of the role of a monster that she always saw him as.
In my restless dreams, I see that town. Scarlet Hollow.

Reese (and by extension Dr. Kelly ) is a very interesting character to me. His behaviour is similar to some real life mental and physical health conditions I have seen in those close to me, if exaggerated for the sake of the art form and narrative. long yap ahead
Just finished Episode 4.
