scarlet hollow playthrough…2!! I wanted to contrast monty and do just the most cursed playthrugh possible with the most self fullfilling tragedy protagonist and it did NOT disappoint <3
Magical Girl Kaneeka design ideas: "The Reaper" and "The Spider".
some thoughts, including ep 5 spoilers, below:
I wanted to basically glam up her regular wardrobe.
The full moon choker is a symbol of her coming into her full power. The full moon was behind her/The Witch in the chapter 3 ghost sequence.
The gold all over signifying her uniqueness and difference from Sybil/Carmilla (her name means "golden").
The heavy use of red comes from Sybil's clothes/Carmilla's hair, but is adapted to fit Kaneeka's hair and style. The color red in Scarlet Hollow, like in many stories, seems to represent Blood, Passion, Danger, and most importantly Power. Carmilla's hair is so saturated compared to the rest of SH's palette, and I believe it represents her innate power over both magic and the narrative. Thus, adding more red to Kaneeka indicates she's more powerful now, and the red parts of her braids have always been a hint to her potential.
No one else wears a hat like Kaneeka, so I think it should just get bigger and more ornate.
Sparkles and starry skies are magical girl staples, but having a halo of it in her hat could symbolize an "ideal universe" from her mind, looking for hope and bright futures. (She would have moon earrings, too. And sparkly nails.)
Golden sickle for a wand because Sailor Moon's first wand resembles one, but an actual metal blade for a grounded horror tone.
Perhaps instead of consuming the Entity and growing from it like Sybil planned, Kaneeka might reap it and be rid of it and/or Scarlet Hollow once and for all.
Kaneeka loves animals, and has a light affinity for bugs. Spiders are misunderstood maintainers who clean things up with their webs and eat pests. The wings are cute and sparkly like a dragonfly, but also (of course) angelic.
Lastly, I thought she deserved some cool tinted anime glasses :]
