July 15th - Doctor Mist
Nommo had been the king of the secretive African nation known as Kor. He was a highly accomplished sorcerer who learned to commune the the essential life force of the planet and all of its flora and fauna. Having refined his skill and wisdom, Nommo stood atop the Pillar of Life and asked to be made a guardian of the planet. His request was granted and Nommo was bestowed immortality along with the ability to cast powerful illusions and enchantments. Renaming himself ‘Doctor Mist,’ Nommo began his journey to achieve his promise to act as the world’s protector. He gathered together many heroes from across the planet, forming the first iteration of The Global Guardians. This was meant to be a force for peace and justice unencumbered by the politics of individual nations and governments. The Guardians served in this purpose for a number of years before eventually disbanding at the request of the United Nations. Although the Guardians have folded, Dr. Mist has continued on in his efforts to protect the earth, endeavoring on missions where he has teamed up with Argus and The Justice League Dark. The hero first appeared in the pages of Super Friends #12 (1978).
