Man can be the most affectionate and altruistic of creatures, yet he's potentially more vicious than any other. He is the only one who can be persuaded to hate millions of his own kind whom he has never seen and to kill as many as he can lay his hands on in the name of his tribe or his God.
— Dr. Benjamin Spock, a pediatrician and author, said the quote, "" in the February 1974 Redbook article, "How to not bring up a bratty child". (via Alive on All Channels)
So I just found out that the episode "Spock's Brain" was being filmed while the famous Dr. Benjamin Spock was being tried and then sentenced for encouraging dodging the draft (recall that the Vietnam war and the nuclear arms race was happening. Dr. Spock's sentiment, as a pediatrician, was, "There’s no point in raising children if they’re going to be burned alive.")
This led to a few things.
The work of anti-draft and anti-war protestors such as Dr. Spock and those standing in solidarity with him (including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. himself) led in part to the abolition of the draft in the 70s
Since he didn't end up serving time after being sentenced, Dr. Spock continued to work towards an end to the Vietnam war and nuclear disarmament

[Image description: Spock (the fictional Vulcan character) stands wearing a jumpsuit, medical monitoring device on his head, and handcuffs on his wrists. Two hands from an unseen person reach towards him; one, wearing a wristwatch, loosely holds his handcuffs. The other holds a pistol and points it at him. Spock is holding up a newspaper in his left hand and looking at it while saying something. The newspaper headline reads, "Spock Gets 2-Year Prison Term; Fine." /End ID]
Just saw an ad for a portable welder called the “Vulcan Outlaw”, and I know, roman god, volcanoes, etc, etc...
But all I can think of is Spock wearing a black bandana mask robbing stagecoaches.

Trojan records cash-in with prog rocker Ken Elliott recording synth instrumentals over various Trojan instrumentals. Kinda fun, kinda strange.
