When you live along the 49th parallel, the ONLY way to fight the greyness around you is with imagination.
Ironically, the colourful background for this piece was inspired by an old black and white film from 1947 called Daisy Kenyon - featuring none other than Joan Crawford. In it she plays a “successful commercial artist” (now there’s a contradiction in terms!) who is having an affair with a married lawyer. She works from home (how progressive!) and has this pretty painted screen in her studio that can be seen several times throughout the film.
You can stream the film here; https://ffilms.org/daisy-kenyon-1947/
