Subject 003: Griffin

“Look, I know you don’t want to go to the facility but the higher-ups made their decision. We can’t keep coddling you anymore.”

Pale yellow eyes scanned the trees they drove by, tuning out his doctor’s words. The suit he was wearing had a few layers but at least he was warm. His arms were crossed on his chest as his doctor continued. 

“You’ll still see us once a month.” 

“A month?! You said it was once a week. What the fuck, Dan?” He couldn’t help snapping, finally tearing his eyes away from the lush forest to face his doctor, his guardian, with his eyes suspiciously glassy.

“Language.”

“Sorry, sir,” He answered automatically, head down in shame. He could hear Dr.William’s sigh.

“You don’t have to call me that. I’m not one of your trainers, they’re too hard on you.”

“Force of habit,” He mumbled, looking more like the teenager he was than he usually did. “Why can’t I just keep studying back at Genesis?”

“I wish you could but Brant was clear with her decision. Besides, you need to be around other people your age, Grif. You know, socialize?” 

“I just want to stay with you and the other doctors. Maybe go to a zoo or two.” He shrugged, picking at his nails. “I don’t want to socialize. Remember when I went to Jenna’s daughter’s party?” 

“C’mon, that won’t happen here.”

“Why? Because of this?” Griffin angrily lifted his wrist, the light of the suppressor on his wrist blinking rapidly. “Yeah, cause it did so much in D.C.” 

“I never got to talk to you about D.C,” Dr.William sighed heavily, hands tightening their grip on the steering wheel. “They weren’t supposed to do that.”

“Well, they did,” Griffin spat out angrily, eyes flashing for a moment. He took a deep breath. “They made me do it. Is that why the project is getting shut down?” His voice trembled slightly as he shut his eyes. Because of me. 

“How the hell did you know about that?”

“I overheard my trainers while changing last week.” The grin on his face was nothing short of smug. 

“Overheard or-“

“Yes. Fine. I dropped for a while so I could listen without them knowing.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?! You know the repercussions that could have if you aren’t careful!”

“I’m fine, aren't I?” His fingers clasped around the suppressor, scratching at the skin near it. “Still here. The government didn’t lose their charity case.”

“You’re not a charity case.”

“Oh right, your little soldier. How could I forget?” Pale yellow eyes tore away from his guardian before he could turn his head. Instead, he focused on the scenery. Endless lush green and bright blue skies. What he’d give to be able to lay in a field just for an hour. Just to rest.

Full Name: Doctor Carter Williams, PhD Gender and Sexuality: Cisgender, Heterosexual Pronouns: He/Her/Hers Ethnicity/Species: African American, Human Birthplace and Birthdate: March 2nd, 1990 Guilty Pleasures: A good bottle of bourbon, Ethiopian Food,  Phobias: Academic Failure, or, more fitting to current times and his profession, being shown up or beaten in Academia/the literature What They Would Be Famous For: Well, if Ethnodemonology was a less secret field, probably that. What They Would Get Arrested For: Possession of certain contraband items, probably, if anything. OC You Ship Them With: His unnamed and offscreen (at least for book 1) wife. She’s in the military and currently stationed overseas. That she’s in the Army and also African American is all I have down for sure. Even once she gets a name and such, she’ll be mostly off to the side of the story anyway, mostly a few cameos in Dr. Williams centric scenes, as she’s not relevant to the stories. OC Most Likely To Murder Them: OC? Well, no one in Aliciaverse, really. He and Jessica Hawthorne (from Heartpoint Chronicles) would probably try to murder eachother in dueling journal articles of academic debate.  Favorite Movie/Book Genre: Anything with really deep cultural worldbuilding Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: Planet of the Hats Talents and/or Powers: He has a PhD in Cultural Anthropology, and if it was possible to get a PhD in Ethnodemonology, he’d have that too. He knows a dozen major demon languages  Why Someone Might Love Them: He’s quite caring, devoted, can cook very well (his wife jokes that she married him just so she could have him cook dinner for her every night) and of course, very smart. Also, his faceclaim is Idris Elba, so there’s that. Why Someone Might Hate Them: He’s very entrenched on his academic opinions, and can get into some really petty bitchfights in print. How They Change: He doesn’t change much, really. He’s past the growing into himself part of his life. Like, I’m sure he does change, everyone does, but there’s no overt arc planned. Why You Love Them: I find the idea of ethnodemonologists awesome. Also, despite being the adult of the group, he isn’t anything like Giles in terms of his relationship to the characters.
