Friday Thoughts from Christoph Egel
As Father's Day is approaching, I am reflecting upon our recent posts here at 1AppleADay while enjoying a glass of red wine and my daily dose of dark chocolate. With a weekend full of feel-good food ahead, it is impossible to ignore the distressing news we’re receiving about the obesity epidemic here in the United States.
Triggered by the "2012 Weight of the Nation Conference", which was organized by the CDC, and by HBO's documentary "The Weight of the Nation - Confronting America's Obesity Epidemic", many news outlets have picked up the topic.
Fox News just reported on "The obesity epidemic in America's churches", NPR about the soaring obesity among teens and last week New York's Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg made the case for his controversial proposal to ban supersized sodas and sugary drinks. All in all, a Google News search returned 4,300 links for "obesity epidemic" - for the last few months! No question about it, the topic is popular.
But how do we make sense of all this information?
Sifting through the available content, one common theme appears - the relationship between poor nutrition and obesity. Currently healthy eating (using food as medicine) is the topic of the renowned journal, Integrative Medicine: A Clinician’s Journal (IMCJ), for their June/July issue and our own Dr. Funfack has an eBook entitled "metabolic balance® - Nutrition basics: Introduction to the success program" available at Amazon.Com which gives a nice overview of the metabolic balance program®.
In the eBook, Dr.Funfack not only explains the relationships between food, weight, and health but he also describes a set of rules that are fundamental to the metabolic balance® program. These rules might help you to get back to a healthy weight by fundamentally changing your eating habits.
So, if you’re still looking for a gift for Father's Day, Dr. Wolf Funfack's new eBook titled "metabolic balance® - Nutrition basics: Introduction to the success program" may be just what you need.
Happy Father's Day and Healthy Celebrations,
Your Christoph Egel.

Clients in the Spotlight: "I realize that 'my' meal plan actually corresponds to what my body wants and can utilize..."
Jacqueline Thalberg from Richmond/California wrote us on November 11, 2011
"I began with MB after I was in Menopause and after my wild ride through various symptoms and physical changes. I thought I was eating a healthy diet - mostly vegetarian, all organic and no fried foods. I started MB more out of curiosity than need - because I wanted a structured meal plan I could follow and get a personalized food list. Losing weight was the other motivator.
What I got was way more than I had hoped for: It became a journey of physical self-discovery at the end of which I was so convinced of the benefits of MB that I would not want to be without it. The first two weeks were extremely difficult for me, since I hadn't realized how much my body needed to detoxify. It took time to get used to my "new" foods, since a lot of what I ate on a regular basis was not on my list and other - for me unusual - vegetables and meats were. I learned to trust that the foods recommended would work for me and after my initial rebellion they did.
The result after more than six months of being on MB: I feel healthier than ever, my energy level is better than it has ever been (really!) and the weight I lost (in all the right places) gives me a self esteem I didn't have before. The supplements I take are ones that my body actually needs and can process, whereas before it was more on a hit-or-miss basis. The personalized food list gave me a connection to and communication with my body I didn't have before and it doesn't alienate me from others, since I give myself plenty of opportunities to eat other things - always, however, coming back with renewed conviction to "my" foods. I realize that "my" meal plan actually corresponds to what my body wants and can utilize and the simplicity of the foods gives me a sense of clean, simple nutrition which adds to my feeling of well being. And by the way: it ends up being a lot cheaper, since I don't spend money on processed, packaged, pre-fabricated food."
