Dracula Ch. 2

Best part of this chapter: Jon trying to buck himself up by telling himself that By Gum he’s a FULL SOLICITOR , not just some CLERK!!  He’s a BIG bourgeois! Mina says so!  

it’s really endearing XD

...So is Dracula a shapeshifter, or was he just cosplaying as a younger, hotter coach-driver, and he kept Jonny H waiting so that he could go change into his streetclothes?

(Third option: the coach driver WASN’T Drac, but just a guy supernaturally in his employ? DRIVER OF DRACULA, the lost Hammer classic!) 

The way Dracula doesn’t move until Harker responds to his invitation makes me wonder if this version has vamps who can go Wherever but can’t have anyone ELSE in their lair unless the person enters willingly. Maybe a bit of Christian fanon concepting there-- the Folklore Devil who can’t do anything to you unless you agree? 

Physiognomy! Take a drink!

Dracula: **nearly attacks JH in a rage, freaks out about the crucifix, calms down and THEN gives a speech about vanity and HURLS JON’S SHAVING MIRROR OUT THE WINDOW 

Jonathan “This is Fine”Harker:  Well that’s annoying , now I have to shave in a pot-reflection >: 

Is Jon Harker the most stereotypically British character EVER 

I’m glad he manages to realize at this point that he’s a prisoner; I’m not sure I could take him ambling along in Work Trip Mode while Drac does his Villain Moves much longer. But has been pretty funny , in a grim, relatable way, to watch JH trying to go on with Everything As Normal while it spiraled into Ever Weirder Times!
