Sand find
It's a cool evening, or that weird time between sunset and night where things are just lit by a glowing sky without sunlight. I'm walking along the bottom of a nearly-dry riverbed. Well, a river where I live, but probably just a wide stream for anyone else. I alternate steps between soft sand and clear, shallow stretches of water.
I come up to a bridge. It's darker underneath it but not enough to avoid. But I almost trip on something in the sand. It's a chunk of rusty metal that is sticking up at an odd angle. It's a disk. A rusty metal disc. I poke at it and it's solidly embedded in the sand. It reminds me of a brake drum from a really old piece of trucking equipment. I kick at it a little and it doesn't move at all. It seems to be attached to something. Could there be an entire truck buried under there? Some kind of cargo trailer maybe?
I set up a small video camera on the embankment next to the bridge and start record as I dig around the metal part. No matter how much digging I do, I can't seem to uncover much more of it than the same disc. By this time I have managed to secure a tow truck, too. I park it on the embankment next tot eh bridge, careful not to be too close to the edge, then set a towline down to the metal in the sand. Maybe this will do it.
(This seems to have been based off an old memory from where I once lived from around 1975. In the summer we would walk along the sandy bottom of the local irrigation canal. There was a bridge for the main street to cross over. Underneath was part of an axle buried in the sand, complete with tires attached. It was a double-tire setup from a truck or a bus. It was also embedded in the sand and attached to something hidden, so it could be pulled and shifted slightly, but not moved, as if it were perhaps attached to part of a framework under the sand.)
