Change from requiring men to register themselves aims to streamline Selective Service, cut costs
Men turning 18 will soon be drafted into the Selective Service database whether they remember to sign up or not. The Selective Service System says automatic registration for most males ages 18 to 25 is expected to be in place by December, reports Stars and Stripes, under a rule now under federal review and required by last year's defense policy law. The change shifts responsibility from individuals to the government, which will pull information from existing databases rather than rely on young men to register within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Failing to register remains a crime and can still block access to federal student loans, most federal jobs, and US citizenship for immigrants.

Draft registration is completely unnecessary
There’s literally no point to registering for the draft. All it is, is a “tradition” that was used during the Civil War in order to get people to fight. With everyone in the military now who WILLINGLY go in to the point where people get turned away do to the surplus of people wanting to join, it’s just plain useless to keep having people register for the draft. It’s wrong to force people to fight against their will, it’s wrong to force people to register for something so ridiculous, and it’s just ridiculous all around and needs to be stopped.
Just and Holy War
With the release of the movie “1917” about two British soldiers on a perilous mission in World War I (WWI), Archives Specialist James would like to share this flyer about the WWI draft registration for American soldiers. This flyer details that “Your country is engaged in a just and holy war” and every man between the ages of 18 and 45 will need to register, stating, “...NO man can exonerate himself by the payment of a fine.”
