Vector has a lot of honourary kids (Belle Cosmo, Cream, Shadow, Amy) and Tails is no expectation. Tails is only eight and while he is smart he's not mature so while sonic leaves him home alone a lot vector often invites the young genius to stay over at the agency to 'teach some manners to charmy' it isn't, it's to let tails spend time being a kid. Tails helps teach vector about fixing his car and broken technical appliances, Vector knows Basic stuff and Tails expands on it.
Tails likes to think Vector is too young and silly for the amount of responsibility he's given himself, he thinks helping him out is the least he can do by helping babysit Charmy or fix/improve his home. He's such a good boy Vector is lucky to have him.
But when sensory or social issues become overwhelming Vector helps him through it, and when Vectors up all night stressing over paperwork or organisational skills, the little kit often has simple solutions
They play puzzle games and watch crime thrillers together, teach eachother phrases and when tails decides he wants to look cool to impress his big bro he knows just the reptilian to ask X
