Dragon's Flame
Completing quests, escaping your own guild, defending a dragon, a life of adventure. What more could you ask for?
You were a rogue from the famous Dragon's Flame guild. You traveled freelance for a living, completing quests that were posted on special boards in each city. As a member of the guild, you could take quests without any problems.
You were in a new, fairly small town where you would check a given quest board. For a small town, they faced a lot of problems. Standing next to you was a tall young man with raven hair and crimson eyes.
Your attention was drawn to the task of slaying the dragon. You were about to look at it when the young man picked up a paper and looked at it. All you heard was him faintly whisper the word why. You peeked over his shoulder to get a better look.
"I didn't know there were dragons around here..." you muttered.
"One lives in a nearby cave," he replied, looking at you.
"Have you seen him?" You wondered. You wondered why they had made a quest to kill the dragon when the city seemed so peaceful and uneventful.
"Many times," he replied. This completely caught your attention and you had many questions for him. You even decided to accept the task. You wanted to see the dragon for yourself and test how strong he was. You even took the task from the young man who left it to you.
You were still looking over the other quests when two other members of your guild showed up, whom you didn't quite get along with.
"Let's see who's here. If it isn't our little Y/N. What have you got there?" One of them asked, wanting to take the quest away from you.
"None of your business," you retorted. The two teased you and wanted to take the assignment away when the young man stood up for you.
"Besides, he should have the assignment. He was here first and he took it first," you said, giving him the assignment. This pissed the bullies off even more since they were from the same guild and in their opinion you should have left the task to them.
"Wait until the guildmaster hears about this, it'll be fun!" They threatened, before angrily stomping off.
"I'd have to go back first!" You shouted at them. You hated your guild, but the worst part was that you couldn't leave.
After they left, the young man gave you your quest back. He didn't need it. He wasn't planning on completing it. You thanked him and put the quest in your bag.
After this encounter, you made your way to the aforementioned cave where the dragon was supposed to be. Before that, however, you made a small stop at the tavern.
The cave had a network of passages within it that formed a sort of maze. You picked a random passageway that seemed most likely and went deeper into it.
You came to some sort of giant room that could easily pass for a dragon's lair. You stepped inside as the ground began to shake slightly. Something was coming, something big.
You immediately hid behind a rock and waited. The tremors intensified as the giant creature approached. You waited there, hidden, for a while longer, until the tremors stopped and all you could hear was quiet breathing.
Cautiously, you peeked out of your halo to find yourself face to face with a large black dragon with horns curved into its face. The dragon had its eyes closed and was sleeping peacefully.
You were completely entranced by this creature. It was such an amazing creature that you knew immediately that you would not do this task. You watched the dragon for a while before quietly leaving.
The next day, you returned to the task board to re-hang the task. Only you pinned it up when the young man from yesterday showed up.
"Are you giving up on the assignment?" he asked you.
"Change of mind. I'm not killing anyone. Besides, dragons are endangered, aren't they?" You replied with a slight smile. The young man was momentarily stunned. He hadn't expected this. "'Besides, I saw him too, and he was absolutely stunning," you added.
"I didn't smell anyone in the cave..." he muttered so softly you couldn't hear him.
"What did you say?" You asked curiously.
"Nothing," he shook his head. "I'm Lucifer," he said instead, holding out his hand to you.
"Y/N. Nice to meet you," you smiled and took his hand. To your surprise, his skin was cold. You didn't comment on it, though.
Then you went back to the tavern and started packing up everything to get on the road again. You stepped outside the tavern when someone grabbed you by the back of the neck and pulled you aside. It was the two from your guild.
"You will lead us to the dragon or we will take you to the guildmaster. I'm sure he'll be very happy to see you," they hissed in your ear. Your hair bristled at the thought of returning to the guild, so you led them to the dragon instead.
You led them to the cave, but they wanted you to show them the exact location of his lair. You had no choice but to lead them there.
Just like the day before, the dragon was resting there peacefully and didn't seem to notice you. After a while, the two of them began to argue about how to kill the dragon, who would do it, and so on. Eventually, however, they agreed to kill the dragon together and blame your death on the dragon. No one will find that strange.
However, their earlier argument woke the dragon up and it got up and started growling. You could see the fire forming in his throat and shining through his scales. That was bad.
As much as you hated your guild members, you stood in front of them and prepared for the fire. You may have been a rogue, but you were an excellent user of fire magic.
The dragon spewed fire at you and would normally burn you to ashes, but you drew the fire to you and absorbed the fire into yourself. You could feel it burning inside your body. As it coursed through your veins.
But what went in had to come out, as it was more than you could handle. Your hands began to burn, and eventually all the fire that had built up came out. When all the fire came out of you, you fell to your knees, gasping for breath.
As you were in a defenseless position, the bullies decided to end it with you. One pulled out a dagger and the other began to prepare a spell. Before they could finish their work, however, the dragon grabbed you in its paw and took off running with you before flying out of the cave. You clung to it like a tick, unaware of what the giant lizard was up to.
After some time, the dragon landed with you in a large meadow, far from the city and even farther from the cave, and carefully laid you on the ground.
Immediately afterwards, the dragon was enveloped in light, and in a flash, he was transformed into a human. Or half one. It was the same Lucifer. But now he had a long black tail trailing behind him, two pairs of wings sticking out of his back, and the same horns as in dragon form.
"Have you gone mad? Are you going to get yourself killed!" He started angrily, scolding you for being more careful. But you only half listened to him. You were more carried away by the mere fact that he was the dragon and just absently apologized.
Lucifer sighed and started checking you for injuries. After all, you had managed to absorb the dragon fire, that was dangerous in itself.
"I'm fine," you said, but you let him.
You wanted to move on after this, you still wanted to go back to the city to see if you could find your things there, when Lucifer followed you.
"I don't need a bodyguard," you said.
"And what was that in the cave? You definitely need someone to keep an eye on you. Besides, I need a change anyway. And me coming with you is just a little bonus," he replied like it was nothing.
In the end you let him, since you liked him anyway and had questions for him like a dragon. He had the same questions about you, your guild, and your magic.
In the next city, you accepted a quest together. You were to find a stolen precious jewel. You accepted the quest because from the first sight of the quest, Lucifer had an inkling of who might be behind it.
The dragon wanted to go directly to the thief, while you wanted to find out more from the owner. The dragon agreed. Thanks to that, you found out that it was a special jewel that could turn other things into real gold.
This information made him even more confident in the younger man. And as it turns out, he was right. It turned out that the jewel had been stolen by a particularly greedy white-haired tengu who wanted a quick buck.
Together, you and Lucifer completed a total of six different quests that brought you much closer together and even made you fall in love. However, you never said you would date each other and despite the fact that Lucifer was very possessive of you.
But nothing lasts forever, and a few days after your last quest, when you were returning from the fox demon, you were kidnapped in your sleep. You had no idea how they managed to get past Lucifer, but they did.
It wasn't until later that you found out that your abduction was requested by the Guildmaster, who took you in when you were young and was your adoptive father. He wanted you to marry the son of the second most powerful guild in the land.
The wedding was arranged in advance and you were dressed in your wedding dress. You walked down the aisle accompanied by magical guards who would detain you in case of emergency. You didn't want to do it, but you had no way to escape, nor could you use magic because of the blocking seals on your dress.
You made it to the altar, where the priest and your future husband were already waiting for you, and he smiled apologetically at you. He looked as if he'd been forced to do it too.
The priest had made his speech and now waited for your response. You didn't want to answer and were asked more than twice. You didn't want to answer, but you saw the guards threaten you to hurry. You opened your mouth to answer when a dragon's roar echoed through the place.
"Lucifer..." you whispered his name and looked up to the sky.
"What were you saying?" The priest asked you.
"That I'm not marrying him," you replied before turning to the groom. "Don't hold it against me," you said before running towards the dragon that was coming towards you like an uncontrolled missile.
When you were close enough, you jumped into the air and he caught you. He held you and headed away with you. When you were outside the city, he threw you into the air and you landed on his back, where you wrapped your arms around his neck.
Lucifer flew you long and far until you were in another country ruled by supernatural beings.
When he landed, he ducked so you could jump down. No sooner had your feet touched the ground than Lucifer was changed back into his hybrid form and took you in his arms. You hugged and kissed him as you murmured your thanks,
"Anything for you. As soon as I knew you were gone, I looked everywhere for you," he admitted, not about to let you go.
You used your wedding dress, as Lucifer proposed to you a few days later. You had a small wedding, which, to your surprise, was attended by all six of the monsters you had met during your travels.
There were, however, three more monsters. One of them was the dragon king himself, along with his servant and an angel. The Dragon King married you and you even had the blessing of heaven itself.
