There’s a brief flinch when he sees Goku heading towards him, primarily because he had not expected the other saiyan to suddenly come towards him. Let alone give him a hug. Or for... anyone to give him a hug. He would freeze momentarily, unsure of what to say as he attempted to figure out why Goku had given him a hug to begin with. It would only be when he actually listened to what the older warrior had been saying that it registered as an apology- something that the time traveler had mixed feelings about. Thoughts were swirling in his head as he attempted to sort out how he felt and what he would want to say.
In the end, he would shake his head to reject the notion of the apology entirely.
“No, there’s nothing you need to apologize for Goku... It was me who let everyone down- If I had only been stronger, maybe Gohan wouldn’t have sacrificed his arm for me. If I was stronger, he could have defeated the androids and lived to free future like he wanted to for so long! It’s my fault everything went the way it did!”
A quiet, defeated sigh comes from him soon after, Trunks would be unable to maintain eye contact as he spoke once more.
“Sorry Goku, but there’s nothing to learn from me.”
