Cat amoung the Canines, part of chapter 9
The following morning, by the back entrance of the drama club auditorium.
Tau was slightly confused why Legoshi had asked him to meet at the auditorium for the start of their date, but he figured the wolf wouldn’t be planning some kind of malicious prank or stand up. I mean it was Legoshi, the guy who gushed over butterflies, bees and other insects and cried if they were hurt.
The guys would have warned him if Legoshi had gotten cold feet right? The panther checked his phone, it was the correct time and place, knowing his nerves were ridiculous. Putting his phone away, Tau looked up at the sky, fiddling with the sleeves of his blue shirt, wondering if it or the black jeans were too much or not enough. For all of Legohsi’s surprise at being asked out, Tau hadn’t exactly been on any dates before either.
He was about to send the wolf a text seeing if he was okay after a few minutes later when the door opened and Collot came out with Legoshi’s backpack. “Sorry about the wait, Legoshi has never really tried to control his fur before so we got carried away with different styles.” Going serious for a moment, the sheepdog gave Tau a serious look with a slight dangerous smirk. “And remember, you make Goshi cry we all know where you sleep!” Collot laughed, then broke into a jog off.
“I’m really sorry about that, I have no idea why he felt the need to make the threat.” Legoshi said as he came out and closed the door before walking up to Tau. “What do you think?” He asked sheepishly, having noticed Tau’s stare, though his body language was relaxed as he stood up fully, tail softly wagging.
Tau gulped, then burst into a smile. “Really good Legoshi! I admit I wasn’t expecting the skirt, but it does look good on you like that!” It was true, Legoshi was wearing his knee length plum leather skirt, a white shirt and a black pleather jacket with metal studs on the shoulders that Tau recognised as being Miguno’s style. All of the wolf’s visible fur, face, neck, hands and tail had been brushed into a far smarter style then it’s usual scruffy state.
Quietly giggling, Legoshi nodded. “Yeah, I realised two guys out together may get some unpleasant attention, and as everyone seems to think I look good in it I decided to rock it.” The wolf gesturing to the jacket as he said the last two words, prompting a chuckle from Tau.
“Easy there, you sounded like my dad for second there wolfo.”
“Aww c’mon, you know it’s a good one. Plus I do actually like the jacket, I wasn’t so sure when Miguno had me try it on in the store but it has grown on me. Legoshi said as they started walking towards the school exit and bus stop.
“So why did you have us meet there? I mean we do live in neighbouring dorms you know?” Tau said curiously.
“Well.. plausible deniability I guess? Like I doubt the school would take kindly to it so it’s easier if I leave the dorms then change into it elsewhere, Collot took my trousers back with him.” Legoshi had a note of sadness in his voice, but also less of the resignation that was usually in his voice.
“That bad to be seen going out with me Goshi? I am so hurt.” Tau teased, nudging his shoulder into the wolf’s.
“N, no it’s not that and you know exactly what I mean Tau! Just for that maybe I won’t pay for ice cream after the show!” Legoshi playfully replied, gently elbowing the panther, earning a happy little chuff from the cat.
“I got the tickets Legoshi! You expect me to pay for everything?”
Putting on a fake American accent, Legoshi smirked and turned, putting a hand on his hips and posing. “Well a gentlemen is supposed to spoil his dame, or she may go and blow on some other guy’s dice.” As he finished the two both burst into quiet laughter for a few moments before resuming their walk.
“I swear to Rex, ever since Tem had us binge those black and white films you two keep bringing them up.” Tau said as they reached the exit of the school grounds and bus stop.
“It was called the golden age of for a reason! Like Maralyn Monroe was the first female wolf to have an actual credited role in Hollywood!” Legoshi said slightly passionately, him and Tem having spent several nights binging the classic films with the others joining for various lengths of time.
“Oh I don’t deny that, but you did see Audrey Hepburn right? What I wouldn’t give to be like her on stage.” Tau responded with a wistful sigh as the bus to town pulled up.
“I mean I wouldn’t say you were bad on stage as it is Tau.” Legoshi quietly said with a faint blush as they got onto the bus the driver calling them an adorable couple.
“I’ve only had one line so far, mainly just been an extra and you know that you flatterer!” Tau pouted as he sat down.
“I mean you still looked good and didn’t screw up.” Legoshi quietly said, tail wagging as they continued to discuss the golden age of Hollywood as the bus headed into town.
