“It’s refreshing, is it not? Even with my siblings I sometimes have to wonder if their correspondence with me is in service of political gain. It is... nice to have someone you can trust utterly.”

The Lamia replied. Taking his turns a bit more slowly than Camilla as the checkers boards here was different than his own back home. 

“I am glad that, at the very least, the trust and respect between us is mutual...” He moved his piece forward, tail coiling ‘round his chair as he spoke with a pleased lilt. “...Wyvern Queen.”

     ‘who would you expect otherwise?’ an abandoned temple, the possibility of an inhabitant around here would be those who were homeless. a prior check was done before informing her, perhaps his report wasn’t credible enough. she had no reason to trust him as of now.

He came and scratched the wyvern’s head a bit before sitting down. “I swore my service to you and I’ll keep that oath wither you’ll properly accept it or not, so since you’ve decided to come out here and rove on your own I’ve decided to accompany you.”

“...Of course.  It’s no trouble at all.”  Kyrene replied softly after a pause.  Camilla was being hesitant and--if memory served--the wyvern pens were where she felt the safest.  She was worried.  Perhaps even scared.

She only had to give the briefest push through the contract’s connection to Lyth to pass along the Queen’s message.  ‘Come home, Moonscales.  Cammy needs your advice.  I’m with her at the moment.’

“Would you like me to wait here with you?”

Camilla had warned Morgan early yesterday that it was best to give her space until she felt she could be around him, and stay out of her path of destruction. It wasn’t as if she would intentionally hurt her beloved Morgan, of course, but her past history with a mother of her own...well...it was easy to understand why she might get reckless, and pretty much everyone knew that she had, judging from everything that needed replacing. It did make Morgan a little apprehensive, but he decided to press on. He wanted to discuss the future...their future.

“Well enough, I guess, but not as much as I would’ve with you there, love.” Typical Morgan, but it was still very true. “I know that yesterday was a rough day for you, and it always is. But Mother’s Day had me thinking yesterday, and I wanted to ask you about something. Nothing super-personal of course...I-I mean I guess it is personal but it’s not about what you might think-...erm...hang on a second, I’m trying to find my words.” Also typical of Morgan to struggle with what he was trying to say sometimes when he said something that came out a bit wrong or perhaps just a bit too earnestly, though in this case it was the former.

“...it’s not asking about anything to do with your past, if that’s what you’re thinking. You’ve told me enough about it as is and I don’t want to dredge up any painful memories today now that you’re not bothered by them so much, if you understand what I’m getting at.”

“Hm? Oh,” She smiled faintly, “Just realizing how different it is here. It’s a good different, don’t get me wrong. It’s just a change I need to adjust too. I hadn’t thought there’d be so many fascinating things to keep me busy!”

“I understand the feeling entirely. It is certainly strange to live your whole life in one spot, then end up shaking up with an entirely different people - even for a day.”

The Lamia slithered up the ramp to the spot where Camilla had found herself in the Royal Palace - a balcony overlooking the Empire’s botanical garden. A sweet, intoxicating scent filled the air - migraine inducing to some, but a delightful bouquet of scents to others. A Lamia in the gardens slithered from spot to spot, taking readings from each plant, some of which were clearly magical.

“Hopefully the food isn’t too spicy for you, Your Majesty.”

Anyways Vaka is good at his job of being an envoy and building relations, he just knows he can absolutely drop that nonsense around Camilla so he does so at every possible opportunity (that would not be damaging to her own reputation)

“Futures are never set in stone, Your Highness. For all I know, I am to die soon.” She hummed softly, looking out the window on one of the upper floors. One of the many studies that she occasionally switched too, to keep herself from growing bored. “Only the Dusk Dragon knows what’s in store for me.”

“You know there’s no need to be so formal with me. Especially if you’re going to bring up a topic like this.”

He pointed out. Vaka slithered closer, arms crossed as he propped himself up against an adjoining windowframe. His head tilted to the side, eyeing Camilla with a curious glare. 

“Are you still rattled from that assassination attempt? Or is something else on your mind?”
