Legends from Savile Row - Anderson&Sheppard
A company whose client roster is a „ who is who” in modern society. A style that has remained the same over 108 years. A passion for turning mens their best versions. Suits that last a lifetime, overshadowing fashion’s everchanging nature.
These are just a few takes on the legendary tailoring firm Anderson&Sheppard. A truly unique operation, founded in 1906 by Per Anderson and Sidney Horatio Sheppard. They were proudly calling themselves Civil Tailors, which were a radical stance among Savile Row’s venerable stalvarts creating clothes for the military. This not only included walk-in traffic, but a different, more soft style of a suit, called the drape cut. It has been invented by the Dutchman Frederic Scholte, but made famous worldwide by A&S.
This style of a coat is roomy over the chest and shoulder blades, resulting in a graceful drape—the fabric not flawlessly smooth and fitted but gently descending from the collarbone in soft vertical ripples. The upper sleeves, too, are generous, allowing for a broad range of motion, but the armholes, cut high and small, hold the coat in place, keeping its collar from separating from the wearer’s neck when he raise his arms. The shoulders are unpadded, left to slope along the natural lines of the wearer.
The Duke of Windsor and Fred Astaire became loyal customers paving the way for many undisputable style icons until today. The list includes other members of the royal family (Prince Charles, H.R.H. Prince Michael of Kent), the biggest names from Hollywood’s golden era (Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, Marlene Dietrich), and fashion tycoons (Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein).
