Another year has come to an end, and I think it is safe to say that 2021 has been nothing short of a ride! As I know it has been for so many other people, the past couple of years have been...difficult, to say the least. In 2021 I stopped lurking within fandom--something that I have done since I was a teenager, so we won’t bother saying how long that has been--and finally became a part of this community. And I am so completely thankful that I shoved myself out of my comfort zone!
I have found some of my best friends within this community, and I am constantly in awe of the pure talent and love that is shared here. So as one last BOOST for 2021, I thought we’d try something new and see how it goes! Perhaps we can make it a monthly tradition in 2022. Inspired by the lovely @the-starryknight‘s TLC Tuesday’s, let me introduce DBC Rec-In’s.

One month ago, people within our community were sharing their New Year Resolutions about fandom. Many people wanted to write and create for the pure pleasure of it, the pure joy. They wanted to create without any stress about what the thought they “should” be doing or creating, and without any real or implied deadlines. Others wanted to read more content that others produce, not because they were expected to read it but because the work was something they were interested in. Even more wanted to become more engaged in the fandom space, and to focus on building relationships with people who support them, challenge them, and remind them of why this community matters.
How have those resolutions been going?
As the first month of 2022 comes to a close, let’s reflect on our goals for this year. Have you made steps to accomplish your fandom resolutions? Have you created something that you’d like to share? Have you read or seen someone else’s work that has inspired your own goals and creativity? Or have you even just formed a new friendship with someone that you’d like to send some love to?
Rec a fic, some art, a podfic, or simply a person. Whatever you’d like! What is your January 2022 Rec-In?
There seems to have been a recent onslaught of plagiarism within fandom, and we would like to address this.
lauren3210’s brilliant fic, Tie Me Up in Knots was recently plagiarized on AO3. We will not identify the person who plagiarized Lauren’s stunning work, nor will we link the fic in question. It is our belief that by doing so we would only be fueling the fire.
Nevertheless, we urge all of those in fandom to be aware of what they are reading. Fandom is supposed to be a safe place. We should not fear that our work be plagiarized or reposted—writers, artists, and all creators. We create out of our own love. To plagiarize, repost, or claim something as your own when it is not is a sure fire way to kill fandom as a whole.
Give credit and kudos where it is due.
