oh yea, forgot to post my teeth man tutorial

For those struggling on how to draw Caine, here’s how I do it (explained to the best of my ability) :D

Of course, his teeth can be a lot more detailed than what I drew, but this was mainly for people struggling to draw his head shape lol

Disclaimer: I do not actually know how they paint the eyes,this is just me guessing their process purely from observations

Transcript:

General Shape:

- Upper eyelid is always thicker than the lower one

- younger characters tend to have bigger and rounder eyes than the adults

- there are five parts to an eye: 1. the upper eyelid corner(towards the nose) ; 2. the upper eyelid main part ; 3. the upper eyelid corner at the back ; 4. the lower eyelid ; 5. the iris

Eyelid:

- more muted color of the hair + accents with saturated eye color

Iris:

- lots of muted darker colors

- hue and saturation shift in lighter areas

- highlights are almost pure white

My advice is to always use tons of references but he’s drawn pretty inconsistently in the show so I just cherry pick my favorite styles and mix them together

Quite a few people have asked me over the period of time I’ve posted my fma fanart how I draw alphonses armour so I thought I’d finally do a little drawing guide ( if you can call it that ) it’s kind of just me sketching out parts of his designs and pointing out the obvious I feel but hopefully it’s helpful to someone out there.

This is kind of how I would’ve approached drawing Alphonse at the very beginning of my fma fanart because I desperately wanted to draw him but was intimidated by his design as it’s outside my usual comfort zone. When I feel intimidated by a characters design I always break them down into basic shapes and practice drawing them while looking at references until I feel like I can draw them on my own, that’s when the fun begins because you can shift their proportions slightly, add your own headcanons and make them fit into your style:]. I had to practice quite a bit to get where I wanted with drawing him and even still I feel like he can look off when I draw him sometimes but! I have to remind myself that it’s how I draw him and that it doesn’t have to always follow canon 100%

How to draw ""realistic"" teeth! (for the teeth man)

I came across this very useful tutorial by @puppyrex8 on how to draw Caine’s expressions. However I still wanted to make a tutorial on Caines teeth myself!

The average healthy adult human has 32 teeth, 16 on top and bottom, however Caine on average (from his various 2d and 3d renders) has only 14 on top and bottom, so do humans. This is because those excluded teeth would be wisdom teeth, which in humans are often hidden by gum or removed! Unlike humans, Caine’s “Jaws” are flexible in order to convey emotions, making them a little harder to draw.

divide a "jaw strip" into 3 pieces, those pieces are then divided into 3 pieces, becoming 9ths. 9ths 3-7 are divided in half.

sections 3 and seven are premolars. sections 4 and 6 are canines, then incisors. number 5 is just incisors. this is much better explained in the picture.

I would use a "pool noodle" shape, or soft bended rectangular prism for the base; then you can go around the shapes to form your sections.

teeth dentures and gums are 3d objects with molars being the least flat!

Caine can be as detailed or simple as you like but if you are also obsessed with teeth positions then I hope this helps :')
