Surface-Level vs Studying a Style

It's easy to mimic what everyone sees at a surface level. It's far more rewarding to dig deep and understand how a piece of media uses its style to build characters. This is something I've been thinking about for a while and wanted to render. Of course being in reference to the phenomena of a brand's social media having someone "drawn in the style of the powerpuff girls" but said someone is just drawn like a Powerpuff girl. It's a problem similar to the infamous "same face syndrome." Sure, if you wanna draw a powerpuff draw a powerpuff, but would pikachu look exactly like a powerpuff girl if they were in the show? No of course not!

Half the fun of the characters in the Powerpuff Girls is how diversely drawn they are. How visually fun they are to see on the screen and how they contrast to the very unique look of the girls. Drawing someone as a puff over and over again often goes against that idea of the girls being these round characters in a sharp and pointy world and often why fans are often tired of seeing it. People respect those willing to understand a media's use of style moreso than copying what the greater public can identify.

My ao3 is here, something i'm working on right now is a really awesome super cool pirate au im not biased at all i swear. Quick summary is it's an au where Techno's a pirate cursed by a jerk of a sea god because it thinks he isnt a good person, but it's fine he's got this. (Another one that i mention a lot is my Alien au, which isnt posted its still in the works but when its out it will be my magnum opus) //// Mon ao3 est ici, j'ai un AU de pirate c'est vraiment cool je suis pas partial je promets que j'suis encore en près de travailler sur. Un petit résumé vite est que c'est une histoire où Techno est un pirate maudit par un connard de dieu de la mer parce qui pense qu'il est une mauvaise personne, mais c'est correct ca vas toute etre correct (Un autre que j'parle de beacoup est mon Extraterrestre AU, c'est pas posté mais je travaille fort desur ca, ca vas etre mon magnum opus)

The genuine GIDDY joy i get drawing Sally with wrinkles and crows feet (the eye smile wrinkles) should be studied in a lab. This joy is so beautiful, it's so so beautiful. She's an old lady with some chubbiness (at the minimum, im drawing her with so much fat i love her) and i'm drawing her HAPPY. I draw her with grey hair and powerful grief that contorts her face and powerful happiness that stretches her skin and powerful love.

Im drawing her being loved. Sorry im feeling sappy about the minecraft salmon from dsmp but i want to hug my own drawing i want to bake cookies with her and feed the fish in the big big ocean with her

You know when one character is grabbing onto another characters shoulders, worried? Yeah, you can picture that. Google seems to think im crazy though and is giving me NOTHING. Good artists use references how am i supposed to make art in these conditions!!!
