LIFE DRAWING (in motion)-

Working to create a gif was very very tiring. After starting off with some small squares to loosen up we then created a continuous load of work, doing 40 drawings taking 40 seconds each, focusing on each one being a drawing in its own right rather than just another frame. After taking pictures and seeing how it looked, we were encouraged to fill in between the frames to create a smooth, flowing animation whilst continuing the loose style. I found this challenging purely as it was quite tiring however it was definitely rewarding to see the final gif.

Martin also showed us some really charming animations done in charcoal using the same thinking which I really loved. The one I especially liked was set in a zoo and I thought it was amazing how gestural drawings could accumulate to produce something quite precise. I also thought the use of viewpoint and pretend ‘camera angles’ was particularly strong and it’s something I want to look at in my work in the future.
