THE BLACK ARTIST: LOIS MAILOU JONES (Nov. 3, 1905 - June 9, 1998) (prints for sale) This is my art depiction of this wonderful and talented black woman. Outstanding artist and teacher, Jones spent her art career on focusing on Caribbean and African themes in her work. While leaving the USA, and becoming a resident of Paris, she still traveled the world, and these travels expanded her creativity and choices associated with it. Jones made it her business to do many works to reflect that she was evidence of black People’s talent in the area of artistry. She was a lover of Africa, but also loved that she was born American. You can also see this within her work. I did a new thing! So this woman contacted me randomly through my website but happened to be local. She wanted a commemorative gift for her Mother but wasn't sure what. After talking, I told her how I make color drawings that represent people's lives and energy. She was totally thrilled and I made her a drawing plus explaination of the colors, like how red and pink represent her Mum's connection to the earth. Eventually we settled on a porcelain pendant of the drawing which you can see in the corner. I accented it with some amethysts and I can't wait to here what she thinks of it 😊 #color #drawingmagic

Had a fun morning yesterday doing colaborative drawings from prompts created by visiting artists @janemfine and @jamesesber as part of the @lokoartfestival The drawing I started had the prompt of a cartoon character. Can you guess what cartoon my partner and I both happened to love? I love doing colaborative drawings but have never given the process a structure like this before so I'm excited to do something similar with students and maybe the awesome people who come to North Country Makers Meetup. #drawingmagic #colab #loko (at Lougheed-Kofoed Festival of the Arts)

I'm working through an online course about money mindset and it's been bringing up ALL THE STUFF. The course itself has some things I disagree with but I am still able to learn a lot from it. Since I process things best by drawing and then discussing them, I'll share my drawings with y'all. This one is about shame. I have all kinds of shame around almost anything related to money. Asking for it, wanting it, spending it, enjoying it, needing it, receiving it, etc. All of this brings up a shit ton of shame and I realize I also have unconcious contempt for anyone that has "too much" money. This is the bottom of the drawing. Neon yellow is shame while the red is contempt. They work together to create the black limiting structure. For me the opposite of this is honest empathetic ownership of myself, my past, and my needs. Confidence grounded in compassion. A state of being that is both pride and humility but I don't know a word for. Someone sugested integrity yesterday and that feels pretty close. This starts with the orange. It is creativity and it creates paths out of the limiting structure. Then the orange gets filled in with red for the confidence which leads to the golden yellow for joy and green for compassion. The blue is clear vision to see all of this while the purple is the synthesis and then sharing of it. I don't know if I have quite gotten to the point of synthesis, but I'll share anyway. #drawingmagic #colormagic #drawallthethings
