I’ve been spending a lot of time staring at this piece lately, as it currently hangs next to my bed. There’s a real weird story behind it about how I created this within my first few months in New Orleans, based on an abandoned house down the block from my first home. The day after I finished it, a big storm blew in and 3 tornadoes touched down in the area, one of which completely demolished the building. It was close to my birthday and the storm felt a lot like a goodbye from Oklahoma, and a welcome to New Orleans. Now this building lives here and I haven’t done another once since, even though I was thinking about doing a series, cause I don’t want to accidentally level the city. I always thought the actual building looked like a child’s drawing in its flatness and crooked lines, with its crayola-esque graffiti markings. It’s called “Drawing of a House”.
