You know what day it is? It’s #selfcareSunday. What did you do to #selfcare? I reached out and relied on 5 women to keep Afrikan High Tea going in Melbourne while I’m in South Africa. It’s a sisterhood in poetry. It’s a beautiful lesson in allowing love and trust to replace the compulsion to control. It was about giving three competent Black Women the opportunity to show just how brilliant they can shine. It’s about growing a network of interdependent artists who can create and present their own events. It’s about #legacy and acknowledging that I cannot do this myself and I don’t have to and I don’t want to. During the six month mentorship program, the mentees from Afrikan High Tea have taught me as much as I hope I passed onto them. This was my #selfcareSunday: the mentees flew out of the nest. Thank you @melbspokenword for hosting their graduation at your beautiful festival. Thank you @MichaelReynolds for capturing the moments.
