Just to make something clear . . .
I'm not sure how people are reading this crap into my dreadlock posts, but I assure you, none of posts have anything to do with black men or trying to "steal my beauty" back from white women who've "stolen all the black men."
White women can have black men. Take them. Fucking take them all. They treat black women like shit just like everyone else.
My dreadlock posts are about how much it sucks to be treated like garbage for wearing my hair the way it grows out of my fucking head. That's it. And (lol) my posts have gotten a little more depressed and angry over the last year because now that I have dreadlocks, I have to face the realities of wearing them as a black woman and constantly being negatively judged, like, ten times more than before. And what choice do I have? When I think about going back to painful perms, thinning hair, breakage, and all that suffering, I almost cry. When I went natural a few years ago, and then finally dreadlocked my hair, it was like . . . the chains fell off.
People want to keep sighting Celts and stuff, but dreadlocks have a long and sad history here in America that is directly tied to the first African slaves who forcefully had their dreads shaved off because they were "ugly and dirty." So, yes, dreadlocks here in America are a big part of African American culture.
This "shaving" is still going on. We still aren't allowed to wear our hair the way it grows out of our head because white people don't approve. Wearing our hair the way it grows naturally means maybe not getting that job or maybe being arrested as a drug dealer or maybe being shot as a thug.
The alternative to not wearing our hair natural? Painful chemical perms that literally burn us to make our hair straight. And if not perms, painful attempts to comb hair that hurts when it's combed because IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE COMBED.
This isn't a choice, really. It's blackmail. It boils down to this: look like white people or suffer physically and emotionally.
And this is the reason why so many black people disapprove of white people not only wearing dreadlocks but claiming that only white people can look good wearing them.
This is why.
I'm not spitting hatred, I'm stating facts. What's great and ok for you is something we are shamed for -- something that our hair does naturally. It's actually harder for a black person to avoid getting dreadlocks than to start dreadlocks. If a black person doesn't brush their hair, when they wake up in the morning, they will have the beginning of dreads. Boom. Overnight.
It's not a choice. This is what our hair does all by itself just to protect us from the sun and we are SHAMED for it. Meanwhile, white people have a choice. They always do. They can wear their hair however the fuck they want and live comfortably, no cops, no racial profiling, no accusations of ugliness, no likelihood of bombing that job interview.
I'm not attacking white people. Again, I'm stating unfortunate FACTS.
And the point of this post is: none of my dreadlock rants are about black men or sex or taking back black beauty. My points are complaints about unfairness and oppression. Please stop reading other crap into them.
Believe it or not, everything a woman talks about does not come back to men.
