         ❝ Josephine wants me to parlay with the Dalish clan we encountered in the plains, but I am not so assured that I’d be able to make headway. ❞  Nalindri sighs, her shoulders burdened with the weight of an expectation she was not sure she could meet. She had some experience with Dalish clans in the past, but not enough to make her feel confident in approaching this one. Each clan was different, and her experience was limited to repeated encounters with a singular clan, so she feared a misstep at every turn.  ❝ I knew how to deal with the clan near Denerim only because I met with them in person many times before I became a diplomat and had a personal rapport with their Keeper. With this clan, I have no rapport. They do not know me, and I do not know them. Quite simply, I need the assistance of someone who understands Dalish customs and needs better than I do, which is why I’ve come to you. ❞

       Rejection was a weird, ugly feeling to fear. Hardly did they ever worry about such with humans—they were raised Dalish, had the tales told to them both through the Hahren and their Keeper (their dearest father Adamalis, the most patient of saints if the Chantry ever bothered to see Elves as equals). They knew the cruelty of humans enough to etch it into their skin. Alas, they remained without the markings of truly being a member of their clan.

       Maikah blamed none of their people for that.

       However, the fear was much more evident when it came to other Elves. Staring at their ears, wondering if they were made out of conquest or out of love, even though the main theory was the former rather than the latter. An existence of shame rather than an existence of mutual devotion.

       Would the Inquisition’s Fade expert see them the same way? They didn’t get a chance to speak with him until that moment, and they had to swallow down whatever fear they had and transform it into courage. Gloved hands fidgeted, clasped together and held below their chest.

       Be strong. Everything will be fine.

      “ You are Solas, correct ? ”  They bowed their head gently, greeting him with a polite smile.  “ It is a pleasure to formally meet you. ”

Revanelan had sought the apostate out for his insight, so of course she was grateful for any advice - but the words that leave Solas’ lips are unexpected, to say the least. They seem plain enough, but for whatever reason, the way he speaks sends a shiver down her spine. She was missing something. 

Nevertheless, Revan shakes off the disquieted feeling and takes a moment to contemplate before speaking once more, fervent in her response. 

“The truth is exactly what I seek. I want answers, Solas - I want to know who he is; why he seeks to become a god; where he got the orb; I want to know everything.” Perhaps it was gluttonous of her to seek as much knowledge as she could, but so many questions remained unanswered, the least of which pertained to the tainted Magister. Dozens more rang through her mind, a cacophony of confusion and weakness that she refused to allow manifest. 

Perhaps the loudest of all the questions, a repeated refrain nearly every time Revan was forced to face a rift, remained. Left hand raising even as she spoke, voice irate, Revan cannot help but continue, “I want to know what in Fen’harel’s name is happening to me.”

“ The elves deserve justice. ”

“And that justifies the rest of sentient beings dying in the process? Solas, listen to yourself!” Orsino’s tone might be exasperated, but his eyes were begging Solas to understand, to listen to reason. “Arlathan was destroyed, but we survived, even in our state. We have to move on. If we deserve justice, we should seek it from those who wronged us, not act as if the entire world owes us.”

"I've been alive far longer than most would ever believe."

“Regrettably I would assume; judging from experience.” Orsino pointed out casually, not looking up from the elfroot he was collecting. “Please, do not get me wrong, but you do not seem to be the cheeriest of people, and if I have learned something along the years it is that life’s meaning lies in its transitory nature. The fate of Arlathan was no mystery, if you ask me. An empire of immortal creatures who have reached the peak of what they could achieve? There is but only one way to go from there, and that’s downwards.”

“Being able to even stand there and hope is a bigger accomplishment than you might think. Many of us do not have that choice. I, of all people, would know.” Although the elf’s expression was emotionless, his tone was seeped in bitterness. 

“I know that many things changed since the last time you checked, but we are no longer immortal beings who can take centuries’ long beauty naps each time life gives us lemons. I guess we’ll have to see which one of us will be standing after the endgame.”

     ❝  How do you know so much of the Breach  ?  It’s rather strange, not many know about it but you appear to know a great deal about it.  ❞  SUSPICIONS WERE all that could comfort her on this, lest she would be pacing backwards &&. forwards endlessly until collapsing.  ❝  I’m curious.  ❞  /  @dreadeternal​​ &. ♥

“I don’t think it is possible for one person to be all good or all bad... We have all done things that we regret, or things that others would deem ‘wrong’. It is rarely so simple, however.” Her thoughts drift to the list of dead that haunt her, grimace marring her lips for a brief moment before she forces herself back into the present. 

“My father once told me 'we each contain multitudes' - at the time I did not understand what he meant. But I understand now- and I suppose he was right. Much as I wish he wasn't."
