hi nonny!! thank you for the kind words, of course!!
set nonny mentioned
the font used: abril fatface
for this set i just tried different things till it looked semi-good to me :D
first you make your gif, coloring etc. obviously. if you have questions about that process you can send another ask for this, i will focus on just the text effects. for this set, the quotation mark and the written text are actually two different layers.
after you finish making your gif, create a new layer above all of your other layers. then select the horizantal type tool and drag and create a textbox on your new empty layer. if you do it correctly it's gonna look like this. click on delete and all the text in it will diseappear. then paste or type your own text.
my character settings for the text. i used the color picker to select a color similiar to the edges of my gif.
after positioning your text however you want, right click on the text layer and click on blending options. change the blend mode to difference at this step to make the text change color as Ilya moves behind. i also added a 2 px white stroke on the outside to make it more readable but this is optional.
for the quotation mark, create another layer on top of your text layer. these are my character settings for this layer:
after that, right click and go to the blending options on your new layer. i did the same 2px white stroke on the outside of my text. the background doesn't move on much where this layer is positoned, so making the blending mode difference didn't create any effect other than making it look dark blue-ish like this.
to get rid of that dark blue, on the blending options change the fill opacity to 0%.
now we got just the outline of a quotation mark. which did not look good enough to me. so make it a bit more text effect-y, click on bevel & emboss on the layer style menu and voila!!
after that you can drag your layers to anywhere you like on your canvas. i used guides to drag it kind of in the middle.
hope this made sense!! if you have any other questions don't hesitate to send another ask!!
I would appreciate a tutorial for the first gif blending and colouring
Hi anon! thank youuu, i'll leave the tutorial under the cut ૮(˶˃ᆺ˂˶)
As always, basic knowledge on making gifs is required to do this type of edits. I linked some useful guides on my previous tutorial here.
PART I: BLENDING
STEP 1, BASE GIF
I recommend getting ready the gifs you're going to use before any try on blending them. And which ones are right to blend? That's just depends on the scenes you're working on. On this gifset, I made two previous blends that didn't make it to the final version cause I didn't like how it turned out. It's all about trial and error.
For this specific blending, as I'm working with only 2 gifs, I'll start editing first the base and then the one "blended". Adjust your BASE GIF in your canvas as you want.
I sized mine like this cause I imagined the second scene of Glinda behind this one.
STEP 2: BACKGROUND
i followed becca's coloring tutorial for this part, except I didn't add any adjustments yet. only coloring the background for a later gradient blending.
STEP 3: BLENDING
Duplicate your other gif into the canvas and change its blending to screen
Now add a layer mask (the button marked with red in the picture) and, with a soft brush at 200px/300px, start erasing whatever you don't want. Remember black is 0% opacity and white is 100%.
STEP 4: THE BLENDED GIF
The problem I noticed by this point is that my background coloring on the BASE GIF was kinda irrelevant cause now the BLENDED GIF completely covered it (。•́︿•̀。) and I also wanted this one to be pink. In order to do this, I created a gradient map layer and made it as a clipping mask so it wouldn't affect my main gif.
PART II: COLORING
STEP 5: BASE
For the base coloring, I always follow this tutorial cause it's literally how I learned how to do it. Honestly, check all maziekeen's tutorials (she made A TON) cause they are so good and your learn a lot. However, I tend to give my personal touches like adding another vibrance layer if i feel like it, cause I like the colors to pop; or skipping steps if I don't think they fit my gif/style. Anyways, this is the result for now:
and these are my settings
i tried to translate as much as possible (,,>﹏<,,)
STEP 6: SMALL TOUCHES
Could leave the gif as it is, but when I was working on it, I felt like something was missing. So the last step is to apply/paint some small touches of pink (or whichever color you're working on). This trick I learned it from this beautiful and very detailed tutorial from dani (she is awesome!! and her tutorials and gifs are flawless!!)
Create a new layer, use the soft brush tool at 1000px, zoom out your gif and start painting out of the canvas (you can totally paint inside if you feel like it) Play with different opacities and blending modes of the layer, this is literally how I created all these gifs. I know it sounds stupid ajskjas but it's true!! Try what best fits the structure of the gif. The first one I made is with multiply at 60% and you can see how much the gif changed already.
The second being color at 100% and the third one hard light at 30%
STEP 7: THE CHERRY ON TOP
Finally I added an animated overlay from this post. Changed the blend mode to screen and erased a bit of it on glinda's face creating a layer mask and with a soft brush. Added my texts... and that's a wrap! :D
I used the same process on gifs 3 and 5 ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
!!! i'm so sorry for taking so long to finally make this tutorial. my procrastination is certainly a thing™. but i finally have the motivation to make a tutorial on these two gifs, though both have almost the same process (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

I. BASE GIF
first of all, it's important to have a solid base to work comfortable. starting with the closer scene or the 'background' one is up to you. it's all about trial and error and see what works best according to the scenes you have. for the rumi blending, i tried various scenes before choosing these two. so, i created a black layer and move my first rumi above it.
II. BLENDING
for this part, i duplicated my second rumi (the closest one) and chose screen blending. after that, i created mask layers: click in one of them and then click the button next to the fx button at the bottom of the layers panel. this will allow you to manipulate which parts of the gif are visible and which ones are not. now, click on the layer mask (the white square in your gif layer) and grab the brush tool. set it to a 200px or 300px soft brush. painting the gif with either black or white will 'erase' parts of the gif. white is 100% and black is 0% ending up with something like this.
III. COLORING
to start adding color, I created two gradient maps, one in pink tones and the other one in b&w. then, by right clicking in each of them, I created clipping masks.
after this, I started adding multiple layers and with a soft brush, took different pink tones similar to the ones I used in the gradient map to color the second gif (the closest rumi) trying different blending modes in each layer! this is all about experimentation, what works best for your gifs, scenes, etc. for this one, I did four layers, choosing hard light, color, screen and lighten.
finally, I added my coloring and an extra vibrance layer (+40 only in the first slider)
IV. RESULT
Add the texts and the png character, and that's it! (っ‘ω`c)
Hi anon! sorry for the long wait but I was having a little break. I'll leave the tutorial under the cut (♡ˊ͈ ꒳ ˋ͈)
DISCLAIMERI didn't come up with this idea by my own. This gif is inspired by the first one in this beautiful gifset I found prior to my post, searching for inspo to my event.
As always, basic knowledge making gifs is required to do this.
BACKGROUND
For this part, I did a simple blend between the three clips of Rumi, Zoey and Mira, by creating layer masks (square button next to fx button in the layers menu). Always remember white is 100% opacity and black is 0%.
After that, I simply added a gradient map with both colors being two different tones of purple on top of the gifs.
GIF SQUARE
Now I took the rounded rectangle tool (U) - if you can't find it, press right click in the icon and the second option is the one I used:
Draw the shape however you like. Duplicate your second gif (it needs to be a smart object) and create a clipping mask by right clicking it
YELLOW SHAPE
To replicate the inspo mentioned at the beginning, I duplicated my first square and reduced its fill to 0% followed by adding a 4px stroke - You can do this by double clicking the gif or through the fx button in the layers menu.
FINAL TOUCHES
All it took from here was just adding curves, levels, brightness/contrast etc, and my texts. I still have the psd I used for colouring most of the gifs and I can put it out for download but I warn you that it needs to be adjusted depending on the scene you're working on.
But... that's it! :D
If you have any more doubts, don't be afraid to reach me again ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
i recently surpassed 300 followers, and i don't know why you are here but i wanted to show my appreciation by sharing some resources.
this pack has 30 different textures in png format and 1285x1258 px dimensions. all have been ripped from kilonotes app and prepped by me. feel free to use them in all your edits, credit is welcome but not necessary, i would appreciate all the reblogs since it would mean a wider reach. thank you for hanging around with me as i learned my way around PS this last year🧡
how do you apply the smart filters to the whole gif? It only works on the first layer for me (rookie question iknow sorry)
Hi! sorry for the late answer ( • ᴖ • 。) (i was away for the weekend celebrating my birthday)
I believe you mean applying sharpen to your gifs, right? In order to do so, you need to convert your gif into a smart object:
After loading your files into stack and cropping it to the desired size, select all frames and layers...
And change it to a video timeline by pressing this little icon
then select all your frames and convert to smart object
Now with your smart object selected, go to filter > sharpen > smart sharpen
with these settings...
and i like to apply twice to get a better result:
And just like that your gif will be perfectly sharpened. It may change depending if you're working with different type of media (such as animation) but these are the general settings
Hope this helped and send me another ask if you need anything else!
would you please share the resources and textures for them.
