Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm getting much better -- and I don't plan on staying gone! I've just sorta fallen out of posting habits, but real life has been very kind to me during this hiatus!

Not sure why it's a meme suddenly, but it's referencing a different meme where someone found a pair of knockoff boots with a patch referring to a Quentin Taratino movie supposedly called Goncharov, which does not exist. last I saw there was a post that theorized that the patch text was ripped inaccurately from a poster for a Matteo Garrone movie called Gomorrah that DOES exist, and then all of a sudden the meme was to make up stuff about Goncharov as if it were a real thing. so long and short, you're confused, but it's by design

ohhh i actually don't know this so it'll be interesting to find out.... here's by kudos:

1) separate but syncopated (unsurprising winner) (holy shit it passed 700!!! when?)

2) nice to meet you (again) (also unsurprising, this one had the top spot for a while and it Did Not deserve it)

3) mick mercury and the friendly luncheon (i GUESS???)

4) (not) a catch (this fic is like 2k words long and i wrote it in an hour. ohhh, to receive that much validation for so little work again. honestly i think it just earned so many kudos bc it's the only fic focused on that particular headcanon, which is a popular one)

5) if i say i love you (i know it's just bc it's my first fic so it's had time to accumulate kudos but UGHH I DO NOT LIKE THIS ONE WHY IS IT HEEEERE)

I got five words for you: jonmartin pride and prejudice au

More words on this- i think i deserve aus where Jon is the one that starts pining real hard real fast while Martin is like UGH this FUCKIN GUY...oh wait...unless...... and what better au than one of the best love stories ever imo. like god pride and prejudice slaps so fucking hard it is the MOLD which all "not technically enemies but definitely people that didn't want to end up at the same parties to lovers" has been built and "grumpy character that's secretly a ball of awkwardness but cares SO SO DEEPLY about His People" with "Personable and charming character that's deeply sarcastic but also secretly just as flawed and complex as grumpy character" is SO FUCKING GOOD AND ALSO!! THEY!!!!

My casting list:

Mr. Darcy- Jon (self explanatory, bad at first impressions, full of love)

Lizzie Bennent- Martin (also self explanatory, funny and sarcastic, lowkey highkey judgemental, kind of goin through it tbh!!)

Mrs. Bennet- Martin's mum, but like. Less awful. Still not great, but at least slightly cares about the wellbein of her son.

Mr. Bennet but not really, mixed with the Gardners- Simon Fairchild. is NOT married to martin's mum, but is the uncle figure that sort of fills a couple of roles

Jane Bennet- Sasha :-) (she's Martin's older half sister in this au, and he ADORES her. Shared mom, different dads)

Kitty/Mary- not in this au lmao

Lydia Bennet, sort of- Gerry. Is actually a live in nurse to Martin's mom, but ends up in the shitty situation that Jon secretly helps out with

Charles Bingley- Tim!!! foot loose and trauma free because his brother is fine in this. speaking of,

Caroline Bingley- Danny. I'm so sorry danny u were probably a nice dude in tma canon before you got got but in this au you're petty and low key in love with jon. that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes okay

Charlotte Lucas- Basira. Not a cop in this, obviously. But like..getting married for practical reasons rather than romantic? that seems very much a basira move to me

Mr Collins- Daisy lmao. WILDLY different personalities, but fufills the narrative role of proposing to Martin initally to end up marrying basira instead. Instead of being a pastor, works security for Lady Catherine

Lady Catherine- Gertrude. Not actually related to Jon, but basically took him on as a ward when his parents died. She doesn't technically control his estate, but she considers herself in charge nonetheless. Expects him to marry her nephew

Anne De Bourgh- Micheal Shelly. Justification is that i mostly thought it would be funny

Georgiana Darcy- who else but Georgie? Not Jon's sister, but she is his other best friend, and she DO be wingmanning

Colonel Fitzwilliam- Melanie! I feel like she would absolutely think she was hyping Jon up when in reality it's like *activates Martin's rage mode*. Also idk i feel like the original character were also mlm/wlw solidarity and I want that to stay

W*ckh*m- okay I want to say this beforehand, but he is NOT a romantic interest for anyone in this au, and he uses/ manipulates people in an entirely different way than wickham does in p and p, with all the focus on the financial aspect. He's a schuckster, not a seducer. But yeah anyway it's elias/jonah. Ugh.

so. yeah. There's definitely some alterations I would make to the original canon, and im not sure if it would be regency or semi modern or anachronistic, but yeah. What it says on the tin. Pride and Prejudice au.

I'm up for prolly another hour writing another 700 words (big oof) but I did just see your latest excerpt. I love how you described the dynamic between Sivv and Kes, can you tell me more about them?

sha’ro is kes’ mentor—he was chosen to train kes in combat, magic, and certain intellectual pursuits, though most school-aligned subjects are taught in lesson halls by actual teachers. sha’ro has been training kes for six years, and as kes was raised without a family, the act of looking after the boy for so long has made it so they’re both attached far more than is encouraged. sha’ro views kes almost like a son, and kes views sha’ro like a father; while their relationship is meant to be more impersonal, they spend a good portion of their time together and share an adjoined room in the palace that makes training more convenient, all of which has led to them developing a close familial bond that (while it goes mostly unsaid) has pretty much dominated what was meant to be something as cursory as a bond between a student and their teacher.

because of this, sha’ro is deeply protective of kes, and kes leans on sha’ro often. neither are quite sure what they’ll do when kes becomes a full-fledged guardsman and no longer needs sha’ro’s training, as their relationship is effectively meant to end the moment kes passes his final tests—it’s clear to both of them that they’ve become family, and while neither of them has quite found the courage to admit it aloud, they’re not willing to let the love they hold for one another disappear just because sha’ro’s guidance is no longer needed.

i’ll stop rambling for the sake of maintaining some hint of brevity (and because i’m gonna try to get some sleep in a minute here KJNFDGKJN) but thank you so much for asking!!! i’d love to elaborate more on anything you’re curious about, and i hope your 700 words haven’t been giving you too much trouble!!!

wow wow wow this is such a beautiful description! I can 100% picture this migration with all the giant jellyfish floating along, and I especially love how evocative the simile ‘like paper lanterns set loose by the hand of some giant’ is! so beautiful! 😍

13. When magic is being used, is there any obvious indication? Does something about the magic user’s appearance change, or is there a sound or appearance or smell, etc. of the magic itself?

When a magic user of any kind is currently using magic, their eyes glow! The strength of the glow depends on the strength of the magic they’re currently using, and the colour of their magic and eyes are the same!

The magic itself has a mist-like appearance, often vividly glowing the same as the eyes, though again this depends on the strength of the spell itself. The shape of the mist depends on how the magic user is directing it--if it’s meant to be put into an object, typically the hands are used to direct it, so the magic gathers from the air around where it’s nearly invisible into a more dense mist that curls around one’s wrists to shaft forward from their hands!

The shape and feel and even smell of one’s magic depends on the individual, the emotion behind it, and the type of magic being used. For example:

Dione had her eyes closed, a gentle, glowing mist winding around her wrists, as vividly verdant as the gaze that formed them. The magic danced over her skin, calming and serene, captivating in its beauty. It sealed the scratches there, the red smudges dissolving into the air, stains on the wraps around her arms vanishing.

Here, Dione is using a healing spell by Forest magic, and she’s quite calm and gentle about it, so the magic is the same~

My control extended outwards to the storm churning far above, a powerful gust of wind charging down through the passages at my command, shoving him forward and almost off-balance as it threw itself into the room; it spiraled into a vortex that lifted my feet from the ground, my cloak billowing around me into fur filled wings, my hair splaying outwards in rays of darkness and poisonous greens. The glow of the magic whirling around me lit the space in virulent verdance, the waves of mist sparking along their edges, crackling, snapping at the howling air in malevolence. In want for vengeance.

Annnddd, here, she’s... not so calm. It’s also Storm magic she’s using, hence the sparky edges--in my mind, the mist looks more like thunderbolts in shape.
