hi dove, belle here! i'm so happy you've brought up "defaulting" to white readers especially in self-insert writing!! as a poc myself, it's so disheartening to know there's a "default" at all. it's different for every writer, but i i personally don't describe the mc's appearance at all, if possible. of course, i've been victim to accidentally adding limitations to my mc's before, but it's a learning experience for everyone. im so glad you talked abt it bc really, it should be brought up more!!

belle my beloved !! i agree, there shouldn’t be a “default” expectation, and it’s frustrating that it’s so common to ignore poc that we go into reading with the expectation that we’ll be let down on that front :/ and i don’t want to paint myself as perfect either, i know for a fact that i’ve made mistakes when it comes to descriptions, but i try to stay conscious of it! hopefully it’s brought up more often because it’s always in the back of my mind :,) ilysm and thank you for sharing <3
