Green Recruit | Laevatein & Forsyth

Every so often, Kiran and the rest of the Order of Heroes would gather in the castle courtyard with the strange mystical object that summoned heroes and hope that the mystical power brought forth soldiers from other worlds. Apparently, that’s how Laevatein had gotten here too. No matter how many times she watched the ritual, she never quite understood what was happening or how it worked. Eventually she grew bored of trying to figure out magic and stopped taking part in the festivities.

Due to Kiran’s summoning, new faces would surface up every so often around the castle. Laevatein already has a hard enough time keeping track of everyone she doesn’t know, and thus she tends to shy away from newcomers. Unfortunately, the man she’s just made accidental eye contact with looks... friendly. A bit too friendly, like one of those people who sucks you in with their positive energy until you’re stuck standing there awkwardly, wishing you were instead sparring with someone who talked a bit less. Like how she sometimes feels with Sharena.

Trying not to grimace, Laevatein approaches him. “Are you... new?” she asks, before realizing -- oh gods, what if he’s not, and she’d just forgotten him? What if they’d actually spoken before, and she’d forgotten that too? Well, it’s too late to take the question back now. Hopefully the answer is yes, if only to save her remaining scraps of dignity.

Memory Lane (Python & Forsyth)

Python hates battles like this.  They’ve surprised the bandits at their camp just after sunset- better to catch them relaxing and off guard during their evening meal, but the visibility for archery is shit and everything devolves into chaos all too quickly.  They’ve left their horses and attacked on foot to gain the element of surprise, but he’s gotten spoiled riding all the time, grown unused to fighting on the ground- particularly without a solid presence and the long reach of a spear at his back.

He doesn’t even fully know where they are, which is a strange feeling- normally he’s at the front with the map like a decent leader is supposed to be, even if at times he’d prefer to be elsewhere.  But the last village they’d stopped in had been plagued by a nasty illness, and though they’d left immediately, he’d still ended up sweating and shivering in the back of the supply wagon for the past few days.  Even now, he’s wobbly on his feet, cursing under his breath as his shaky hands send an arrow flying several feet wide of its target.

He just hopes they can end this quickly.

Immersed though he is in the fight, there’s still something oddly familiar about this forest- the shape of the trees, or their smell, he can’t quite put his finger on it.  But he isn’t some nature- fascinated mage who pays attention to that sort of thing, and now isn’t the time.  Out of the corner of his eye, he catches sight of a bandit with a massive beard and wild eyes swinging an axe over his head, only to pay for baring his torso with Eren’s blade between his ribs.

“You ok, boss?” she yells, the concern in her voice concealed a bit by the unpleasant sound of her yanking her sword from the man’s body.

Fuck, he must really look out of it.

For a moment he’s distracted further, not by her voice but by a flash of green- so much so that he has to dart out of the way of a sword swinging towards his bow arm. He shakes his head quickly to clear it, blames his fever and the surrounding forest for playing tricks.

He’s just seeing what he wants to see- that would be impossible.

Xander would not be pleased if he found out about Silas’ plans.

The royal family’s time and attention has been almost entirely devoted to the Valentian king and his retinue. All of Castle Krackenburg is buzzing with energy–as far as Silas knows, there haven’t been any foreign diplomats from a major country since the Cheve incident, and everyone wants to put their best foot forward. With Xander as king, perhaps Nohr can finally show the world its true nature as a powerful, prosperous country and leave behind its warmongering past.

Which is why there’s doubt nagging in Silas’ heart. Valentia is the first ‘Outrealm’ country that Nohr has interacted with. There is so much on the line with this first impression. Would asking for a simple duel be worthy of causing an international (“interplanal?” “inter-realm-al?”) incident? Surely it’s not, especially with a low-stakes duel that his intended opponent can refuse if he so chooses. But Silas so hopes he doesn’t. Becoming a knight is only half the battle: Silas want to be a knight that not only Corrin can be proud of, but he himself can be proud of. And who better to test his skill against than the lieutenant of Valentia’s Brotherhood of Knights?

Admittedly, Sir Forsyth is the only one Silas knows by name and can recognize on sight. The man strikes an imposing figure even in all that gaudy green armor: tall, well-muscled, bright-eyed and alert. He would be no easy opponent.

Silas heard from his fellow knights that the Valentians flock to warmth and greenery like bees, and sure enough he finds Forsyth and his commander sitting in the castle’s modest garden. Steeling his nerves, he approaches the knights with as much confidence as he can muster. “Sir Forsyth,” Silas says, bowing politely to the knight. “My name is Silas, I am a knight in service to the royal family. If–I was wondering if… you would do the honor of sparring with me.”

Top deck or window seat. He loves sightseeing and looking around his surroundings! It gives him a sense of exploration, and it’s easy to get lost in daydreams when he does that.

Alm already gets a whole continent named after him... He’d be very embarrassed and flattered and also confused? Because he can’t think of anything he’d do that would merit getting a constellation named after him. It would probably look like Duma’s symbol (the same one he has as a birthmark at the back of his left hand, because I’m unoriginal and can’t think of anything).

Love, because he values his interpersonal relationships a lot. Romantic and platonic both. He wouldn’t feel... right if it were just riches or success.

A flash to the right.

Riders falling to the left, staining their steeds red.

Green hair to the right, falling into faces and catching on blooded lips.

He looked familiar - the deep emerald armor, lance clutched tightly in desperate hands. Conrad had seen that face before. The branded boy Anthiese loved - Alm. He was part of Alm’s forces. A Deliverance member, then.

Conrad clutched the reigns of his mount tightly, pulling hard to the left. The baron was in trouble, cornered by a mage terror. He couldn’t allow a member of Alm’s army to get hurt.

The moment he was in range, ignoring the clashing of battle around him, he swung his lance in a broad arc. Mila’s blessing dissolved the creature.

“You there!” He cried, loudly to be heard over the wails of war. “Are you injured? You must be cautious!”

After a careful look around, he slid from his saddle, keeping one hand on his lance and one gripping his horses’s lead.

“I’ve rations, if you’re in need.”

Cotton Skies | Kanna & Forsyth

“My head on a pil~low, and silence in the room. Sheep jumping over fen~ces and the cow over the moon~” Kanna’s soft singing voice carried through the air as she scaled her favorite, most secret hill. The soles of her feet compressed the plush grass underneath her with each step, bouncing back lightly the moment her weight was shifted into her following step. She had grown quite fond of this particular rise in recent days, as its bountiful grass and scarce trees provided a ideal environment to log-roll down to its base. One she arrived at its rounded, subtle peak, she quickly scanned the path she would descend. In her excitement, she failed to notice the figure sprawled across the grass halfway down the grade. She dropped to the ground, positioning herself to lay flat on the ground, folding her arms in front of her chest.

“Timberrrrr!” She cried as she pushed off the ground, engaging her tumbling motion. As her speed increased she was unable to contain the giggles that escaped her, taking joy in the dizzying sensation of rolling. The only warning that she was barreling towards the figure was her laughter, which bounced off the neighboring hills surrounding them.

But here are some definite competitors:

-Smash Bros (fight me anytime (ง •̀_•́)ง  god i’m so hype for ultimate i don’t even have a switch yet tho lkjhggfdd it’s a Problem)-the Legend of Zelda series (Minish Cap being a potential #1, but GOD I LOVE LOZ I’LL TAKE ALL OF THEM)-the Tales of series (Symphonia will always be nostalgic fave but I really enjoyed Berseria/Zestiria together!)-Undertale (I was half hesitant to put it up here but no, I played it during a really rough time in life and it endeared itself to me immediately and it means so, SO much to me, it’s my comfort food now)

And then on a similar-but-not-quite-the-same level:

-Golden Sun (WHY DID THEY DO US LIKE THAT IN DARK DAWN if isaac ever made it to smash as a main my bro and i would simultaneously combust)-Fire Emblem (FE7 is nostalgic fave but I love lots about most entries)-TWEWY (the concept of Noise has stuck in my head ever since and the style was just so sick yo I’d def rebuy for switch)-Pokemon (Emerald for nostalgic fave (and XD/Colosseum too) although... pokemon just isn’t as high up for me as it used to be, sadly.)

Combat Advice

((starter for @dreamsofknighthood )) Many outsiders looked at Gray’s upbringing and assumed one of two things: he was a spoiled only son with little practical knowledge of the world outside his village or he was a backwoods country bumpkin with no formal training in the finer arts of the sword he carried on his belt.

They were wrong. (Ok, he may have been a little spoiled, but that wasn’t the point.) Gray was a skilled merchant with an astute knowledge of wilderness survival and years of training with Sir Mycen alongside Alm. He’d been facing down threats more powerful than himself for years, had helped win a Mila-damned war, and yet…

The training dummy in the courtyard seemed to be laughing at him as the attached sandbag swung around and hit him directly in the face. Gray reeled backward, hitting the ground hard and tasting blood from where he’d bit the inside of his cheek. He grimaced and thought about just calling down lightning and burning the wooden dummy to ash. Satisfying, but ultimately just another costly thing for the kingdom to replace. He’d gotten too reliant on the distance his sword afforded, too complacent on the battlefield. The techniques he’d learned in childhood had been excellent building blocks, but he was nowhere near the skill level of the knights that now surrounded him.

He had to do better if he were going to remain at Alm’s side. He had to prove himself if he were to gain the approval of a certain Pegasus knight and his best friend. He had to be able to combat any threats against the newly reunited kingdom.

He had to stop getting hit in the face by a stupid wooden man with sandbags for arms.

Picking himself up off the dusty ground of the training yard, Gray eyed the training dummy with distaste. He came down early in the morning to avoid the seasoned fighters and recruits that still outclassed him. He didn’t want anyone to see how badly he was lacking. But how was he supposed to learn without a live opponent? Maybe he should just stick to drills for the time being.

With that thought in mind, Gray turned away from the dummy to face the empty expanse of the training yard. Dawn light was just starting to spread out across the bare earth, a light breeze kicking up puffs of dust that caught the light and became golden. Gray’s lips quirked upward in a small smile: Rather a poetic setting in which to train for combat.

Assuming a pose drilled into him from early childhood, he began working through one of the most basic sword forms. Steps and blocks almost like a dance at the village festival flowed through him and he lost himself in the rhythm of long-remembered patterns.

By the time he stopped to catch his breath, the sun had risen a little higher in the sky and streaked light beside the dark shadows of the walls. Gray wiped his forehead with the back of his hand, turning to grab his water pouch from where it lay on a bench by the wall. He froze when he discovered he was no longer alone, Forsyth now occupied a bit of wall along the formerly empty training yard.

“Mornin’,” Gray managed to squeak out, mortified that his training had been discovered by someone with much better combat discipline. “Uh… how long have you been standing there?”
