Usually, Xander takes his time when speaking, leaving pauses to gather his thoughts. Xander understands the weight of his own words well. This time, he is quiet so long it seems for a moment as though he won’t answer. Then he speaks. “My early life was… difficult. To say the least. If I were offered the opportunity to go back in time and relive my early life, I don’t think I would take it. Many things happened back then that were out of my hands. I know that if I went back I’d only torture myself over the possibility that things could be different than what the Fates decided.” Xander’s expression remains neutral but there’s a far-off look to his eyes. “…Though, sometimes I do wish I could have been closer to my siblings back then.”

"I am certain of it." He pauses- that was the easy part of the answer. "I have suffered so much pain and anger and loss as a result of that day. I have no doubt that I would be...happier, had it never occurred. Life would be easier. But...I have grown a great deal due to the direction my life has taken. I have met people I never would have met had I remained sheltered there, and found strength in myself that I did not realize I had. And I value my family all the more having known what it is like to live without them."

He falls quiet again, this time contemplative rather than awkward.

"I am not... grateful that it happened, of course. If I could go back and prevent it, I would do so without question." He lets out a soft sigh, belied by the hardness in his eyes. "But I cannot. All I can do is continue to live and to grow, and hope that I can become worthy of carrying on the memories of my people."

An Alliance in Hard Times [Forsyth & Eliwood]

It was the same as always; another skirmish near the border. The battles had been so frequent, so unrelenting, that even Forsyth was starting to feel exhausted. The latest was particularly bloody, and the knights entered the town with solemn face, trying not to catch the damning eyes of the villagers as they passed by.

Dark clouds loomed overhead, blowing in from former Rigel. In the square, a lone bard played his lute with conviction, his voice rhythmic and low.

O Mother! Your children toil in sorrow, Gone is the touch of your gentle hand. Where now are the bounties of the earth? A land united, but no united land.

He noticed how the knights hung their heads, and he knew why; Valentia was a singular kingdom in name, but in reality, the nation was just as divided as ever. But it will take time, Forsyth told himself. With time, there shall be peace. The thought kept him going.

It was a few days’ march from the capital, and Sir Clive had ordered that the horses were to be fed and watered. This gave him a welcome respite for a moment; it took him little time to find a stone bench, worn and weathered with age. He checked himself over. His back ached – he’d stumbled over in the rain – and he’d taken a nasty hit to his upper arm that was fast beginning to bruise. Paltry injuries, but he would be glad to see them heal.

To distract himself, he took to cleaning the mud from his armour, watching the townsfolk mill past. If somebody caught his glance, he gave them a smile; if nothing else, it kept his spirits high.

She cannot finish the sentence. Ephraim is the most important person in her life, but she is unsure if she would become vengeful if he were taken from her.

Even the Demon King did not become an object of her wrath in the end. 

Does it make her a poor sister to doubt her ability to carry out brutal vengeance?

Free Falling | Hector & Eliwood (WingedAU)

For Hector, the best part of the morning wasn’t being able to see the way that the sunlight reflected off the clouds, creating a beautiful display of colors. His favorite part of the morning was being able to wake up next to Eliwood, who was always curled up in his arms. He looked around at their roost, taking in all the knickknacks and other treasures that he had collected on his journeys away from the nest, and smiled to himself before he gently ran his fingers through his partner’s hair. While he was doing that, his giant hawk wings shifted slightly, moving a little in order to make sure that his wings didn’t get stiff from being curled around the two of them all night. 

He rarely ever woke up before Eliwood, always preferring to sleep in instead of waking up the second that the sun started to rise. It was moments like these, with Eliwood asleep in his arms, enjoying the peace of the morning, that he treasured the most. He pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead before letting his eyes wander, drinking in the natural beauty that his partner possessed. There wasn’t a single thing that he would change about him, even though he knew that many other’s wouldn’t agree with him. His eyes lingered on his wings, fighting back the urge to run his hand over the small wings that weren’t big enough to carry the other man’s weight.

He had never minded that the other wasn’t able to fly, it wasn’t something that was a problem for him. He thought that Eliwood’s small wings were perfect for him, they just seemed fitting for the type of man that he was. He didn’t think that he would look right at all if he had his massive and powerful hawk wings. He knew that being unable to fly had given Eliwood some challenges that he had to overcome, but Hector was always dedicated to ensuring that he was able to live a fulfilled life no matter what. 

He only let those thoughts hang around for a few more seconds before he started thinking about what they would be able to do that day. He hoped that he would be able to take Eliwood flying with him, just to get away from their nest together for a little while, but he knew that they were also running low on supplies. He always hated doing supplies runs because it meant leaving his partner, even if it was only for a day or two, but he would much rather have him there with him whenever he left their nest.

Mirrors: What is your muse’s least favorite thing about their appearance?

Tight Space: Does your muse ever feel that they’re not living up to their own potential? 

At risk of sounding crude, Deirdre wasn’t initially comfortable with her, shall we say, secondary sexual characteristics. Her grandmother died when she was fourteen, and given the changes people go through at that age, she came to associate puberty (or whatever they call puberty in Jugdral) with her curse. Her feelings change when Sigurd comes into the picture, I guess? 

Post-amnesia, Deirdre wonders if she could do more as a leader for Grannvale beyond head of household duties (i.e. making sure that everything in Barhara is running smoothly). She isn’t a natural leader, but she does feel duty-bound to her people. Arvis seems to want to handle it all himself, though, so she’d rather defer. (Deirdre does love Arvis, but she’s intimidated by his public persona. Not to mention that unfortunate, uh, murdering Sigurd thing.)

💸 - Money! - "Ah, Lilina, there you are!" Eliwood called, approaching with a warm smile. Reaching into his pocket, he retrieved a small red envelope, passing it to her with ease. "Spending money for the festival. Please do so wisely, some of these vendors are a bit expensive." He warned gently.

Lilina stared at the red envelope handed to her before looking back to Eliwood. “A-Are you sure it’s okay to be giving me more money for the festival? I already have a good amount from the allowance I saved, and I’m sure you can use this to buy yourself something as well.”

The young girl blushed, feeling a tad bit embarrassed and guilty. She tended to feel bad whenever someone tried to give her money, thinking that they could have a better use of it instead of giving it to her. While she took his warning into mind, she did happen to find some items at one of the vendors that caught her eye. Perhaps he had noticed and wanted give her a bit of extra cash. She’d keep in mind to find a vendor with a sale and give back any money that she didn’t use.

👩 - What is your muse’s relationship like with their mother? Is it good, bad, or complicated? ~ uwu

Ah, well I suppose part of this depends on @fightdriven‘s headcanons on the matter as well!

In every FE game there’s at least a mention of the lord’s mom. Every game but FE8, that is. My headcanon is that the twins’ mom died while they were very young, possibly in childbirth. Eirika is sad about that, but it’s a different sort of grief than losing her father. She regrets that she never had a chance to develop a bond, good or bad. 

What if Fado had remarried? I think she would be shocked, and she would at least try to extend welcome to the woman. (While I headcanon that same-sex relationships aren’t taboo in Magvel, I’m unsure that they would be able to get married, so we’re assuming a stepmother in this case!) Could you imagine Eirika and Ephraim plotting against the stereotypical evil stepmother?

(I actually have a fanfic AU where, uh, the twins’ mom is a dragon. She’s alive, but doesn’t quite understand human customs. She shows up once when the twins are young, and again a few years before the war. In that case, Eirika’s very concerned about Fado getting his heart broken.)
