when I started shipping it if I did: So I came to fandom through the show, and though I don’t remember exactly when I began loving them together, it was no later than mid-way through S3 (I started watching the show when S3 premiered, thanks to all the marketing, and had caught up to current eps midway through the season). But P/S is why I’m even in fandom to begin with, which is why the levels of vitriol can be so dismaying.
my thoughts: UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHMYDISILLUSIONEDBABIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. In all seriousness, it’s the complexity that I love. Neither Sansa nor Petyr see the other as purely one thing: we’ve read her conflicting thoughts in the novels, and had Petyr’s (somewhat) explained by GRRM. They will always be negotiating not only one another, but their own perceptions as well. A lot of Sansa fans want to wrap her in a shock blanket and stick her in a corner, and I don’t think she deserves what hardships have befallen her, but...it’s also clear in some of her earliest chapters that she enjoys a challenge, that she likes puzzles, and it’s just delightful how they both challenge one another. Plus there’s the similarity/divergence of their childhood experiences; both of them were innocent at one point, and we see what experience has done to Petyr, what it might do to Sansa (but likely won’t). That contrast and how they can complement one another is fascinating.
What makes me happy about them: EVERYTHING. This is actually my sentimental side speaking, but the possibility that while Petyr nurtures her cleverness, Sansa might just...nurture...him, in what little way she can. I don’t necessarily think it’s something we’ll get in the books, bigger fish to narratively fry and all, but I love the possibility all the same.
What makes me sad about them: They both learned the hard, bloody way that life is not a song.
things done in fanfic that annoys me: Daddy kink. Woobifying. ~True love~. Dumbing down/simplification of Petyr. Declawing of Sansa.
things I look for in fanfic: Manipulation. Slow burn. Uncertainty. Mutually playing for the long game. Evolution. Ultimately, partnership.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: My endgame for Sansa is her with Petyr by her own choosing; otherwise, I would prefer her with no one to be honest, just because I see her arc as progressing towards greater and greater agency. Shuffling her off into marrying some stranger would negate that in my mind. And no one for Petyr as well, since I think the final possibility of him acknowledging any genuine feeling lies with Sansa.
My happily ever after for them: I split it into two — unlikely in canon, is Sansa and Petyr wed, her returned North to restore her father’s keep and lands; and more likely in canon, Sansa and Petyr not joined by marriage, but clearly partners, with her still in a position of some power (whether it be the North or the Vale, much less likely KL).
who is the big spoon/little spoon: Petyr is almost always big. Sometimes, though, if it’s been a very very long day, Sansa will pull him up against her and run her fingers through his hair.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Talking shit about everyone. jk because that’s def foreplay. Sitting with one another in the quiet, feeling no obligation to speak. Those rare moments in which they can simply be.
